The Old Folks Home

Oh boy Ron!!! Thanks for the reminder!!! My girls haven't had any catfood since my accident! I don't feed it to them everyday tho because I've made the mistake before of giving too much protein and throwing the protein/calcium out of balance. Took me a ton of research to figure out why they stopped laying, duh.

I love that site. But I have no basement... Or pantry area The only place I could build storage like that would be in my laundry room....

I do so want food shelves I can load from the back...

deb

We do have a basement, and have a lot of food storage. Deb, put it anywhere, the basics, you just never know. Make sure you have a big bottle of water on hand...like a 10 gallon jug. :) We have water barrells outside full of water. I am thinking they need to be changed, but, if we needed water for something other than drinking, it can be boiled and used. We have several jugs of water in the basement, lots of wheat, rice, sugar, flour, canned food. A goal around here is a 2 yr. supply, thinking we have a 2 yr. supply in some things, but not all. At least a yr. though. We have shelves down under the basement stairs..a nice sized area under there for storage. Including, boxed up holiday things. :D

I feed mine the feather fixer and just little extra calf manna to up the protein and it moves them right along.

They are all laying again tho 2 of them still look a little "raggy"

I also use that manna..great stuff.

Chickens will do a light molt as they start getting closer to laying. More protein, but not a whole lot will help them through it. I give them some eggs back at em..but wait, ve..doesn't get enough to feed back yet!

Sorry, they will come!

I am getting 12-15 eggs a day and mine are not done molting yet. Sorry y'all

We are early this year because of the weird weather we have been having;

third year of drought and the driest year on record
Warmest winter on record
Warmest summer on record

Smoke from fire does not help either.

The Pita Pintas molted and stopped laying for a week. They are back laying nicely now. I only have two hens laying but have a couple of pullets getting to POL(point of lay).

BRAG BRAG BRAG!!!
