The Old Folks Home

I find it disturbing that you have Wilson quilty. Do you have all the facts ? That is what I'm talking about. I really just want the truth to be told. If he is quilty so be it.

I said accountable, not necessarily guilty, but why is he being made unavailable to everyone? It's so convoluted. Way too much is being hidden. I just want the truth too, whatever the results. Too many questions unanswered out there.

Ok gang help me out here. Do you all prefer a certain hatchery over another one? Can you tell me who you use? I'm looking at what I want to get for 2015 and don't know who to use. My lav orps and LS are from a breeder but I have plenty of them still trying to grow out. My RSL's from TSC are just not the healthiest birds. I feel like we have been battling something with them since we got them so I'm not want to get any there next year if I can help it. The silkies .... Well they are silkies and they belong to my DD's so they are there taking up room. I think I want to go heritage breeds.
I understand RSL's are bred to produce eggs

and nfortunately they don't live as long. I use Meyer Hatchery, but I don't get RSL. They have heritage breeds but if you want the best or better of the heritage breeds figure out what kind of breeds you want and look up online for that breeds organiztion. The websites of many of the organizations will have a list of breeders. Most individual breeders of heritage birds are truly concerned and care about the health of the chickens. Not that hatcheries aren't but It is my understanding the line is better from a breeder usually. My next chicks I get will be from breeders of the specific breeds I want. I like my hatchery chicks but I have a couple breeds here that should be doing better in their laying and color of eggs. Don't know if this helped any.

It costs the same to feed breeder chickens--but they are so pretty!

The biggest factor with sex link hybrids is what happens to their reproductive system as they lay all those eggs in the first year. Getting pretty hens that lay a couple hundred eggs a year for three or so years often works out better than having a high percentage of the hens blowing out their egg tract after the first year.

After three years you will want to work on getting new ones. The older ones can still make pets for people and Craigs List is a good place to sell them.

Best!

Ron who is procrastinating about culling some old hens....

I've got some older sex-links, four of them are four-years-old and one is about five they still lay every other day... But my girls seem to be the exception not the rule... From what I've read I'm lucky... Mutts are great too...

He can't talk till after the trial is over. With a grand jury trial you don't put it on TV or have lawyers talk to public about it. Till it's over one little slip up and they have to do it over.
