Last night we did 1 duck, 6 roosters. It's quiet today. Except Nugget is protesting being in the bathroom unable to mate with Wobbles. Lol

6 more roosters and 3 muscovy drakes left. My bunny Grace is acting goofy. She moved her nesting box around to be positioned right by her feeder and waterer. Baby bunnies any day now.

Then maybe kfb at mi casa? I make Korean fried chicken.. 3 lbs of cut up chicken, salt, pepper, dump rice flour, potato starch, buckwheat flour, baking powder on top of the pile of chicken, crack an egg on top and toss until coated. Fry once at 325f in hot oil, take out drain. Increase heat to 375f fry again- makes it very very crispy!!

One of my decrowed ayam cemani roosters is a pig. He way over eats. I may have to cull him. Gah!

Thanksgiving is a week away. I have to cook for a pot luck tonight. Bah humbug! Oh, too early for that yet?

A lot of cockerels eat too much when they are growing.

Keep in mind Toxic comes in various levels ... Like for instance Apple seeds hava a toxic component... Eaten occasionally when you make applesauce... Not so much. Because the bird isnt relying on it as a main diet...

Thanks Deb, I always wanted one specific to chickens, but heck it didn't work! I want to plant stuff in my yard that provides them food. I've got 2 grape vines going on their wire enclosure. They ate up the other 2 before thy had a chance. Right now they are eating all the pecans that fall off the tree, after I step on them, of course. These are native pecans and though they have great flavor they are too small for me to fool with. I have chinaberry trees that are toxic but they don't eat them, fortunately. Anyone know what else one can plant, low maintenance of course, that provides the girls with seeds or berries?

Mulberry trees.... OH MY Goodness. they can be made into jam and wine and there is still enough for the birds.

One of the problems with chickens is you have to enclose the plants so they dont get stripped while they are starting out.

But there are ways... you can plant beds of wheat or rye grasses surrounded by four by fours or planter boxes and staple plastic netting over the top stretched tight. Now the grasses can grow up and the hens can "graze" as they can reach the tips. Plus the net will support the weight of the hens.

you can do Kale that way too. Make an Aframe to protect the plant this way they can reach tasty bits without killing the plant.

Same would go for your Grapes.... Though I would exclude them completely till the grapes with through at least o
.for rye real soon as there is nothing growing in my yard. How does the A frame work? Do you just let them peck thru the holes of green plastic and get what they can? I eat Kale several times a week and would be prone to grow it for my consumption rather than theirs.

That 's what you get for hitting submit w/o looking one more time! You can tell this pc is giving me h***. I cut off some of your message and it lost 2 lines of mine. I have Mulberry trees growing on the side of the house. When the berries were dropping I let the girls out to eat them and they weren't interested. I'm going to do the screened frame for rye soon. I'm trying to grow peppers but though fenced the bantam roosters fly over the fence in the wee hours of the morning before I get up and tear them up. But hopefully they will be gone soon. (craigslist!)
