It's already 40f here, but I'm otw to the dentist again for getting the other broken molars pulled and fitted for partials in a couple hours.

I'm using the seedling heat mat and extra trays I have for making fodder for my pretty big flock of 38 chickens and 6 muscovy ducks. We're probably going to start the spring garden soon inside. I have the heat mat in my master bathroom. Which also has Reginald and Cookie in the bathroom too. He refuses to stop over eating.

Heat mats are great for fodder in a cool home.
My bottom sprouting shelf has an 8' 2X16 on it to provide seed tray insulation from the baseboard heater under it. Otherwise it gets too hot for almost anything but watermelon to sprout.

Thank you CC, that gave me a few suggestions that I need to try. I am going to try the less time soaking, then rinsing more.

I consider myself to have a pretty green thumb so I couldn't figure out why I just had so much trouble with fodder.
Mine was barely sprouting when others I saw the same age online was almost an inch tall. The other problem was the mold.
I then saw a video comparing 3 batches of barley. One was a 24 hour soak, the next was an 8 hour soak and the third was a 1 hour soak. The shorter the soak, the faster they sprouted. After a few days, the 8 hour soak almost caught up with the 1 hour but not completely. The 24 hour was way behind and never did very well.
I then thought I'd have to introduce a fan to my sprouting shelves to keep air circulating. The faster start, frequent rinsing and thorough draining made all the difference for mold and I didn't need the fan.
IMO, it's important not to reuse the rinse water for the fodder so I carry the water out and use it in the garden.

I've not had as much luck with oats and I've read that it's difficult to use for fodder.

All I can say is - nice place - wouldn't want to live there. BTW I did have a house close to Lake Erie in PA for several years. My aversion to snow is not just theoretical.

I didn't watch it live but saw the replayed game at 4 AM this morning. A lot of mistakes on Mizzou's part. I hope they get the bugs out before the Razorback game Friday or they'll be in trouble.
Arkansas is the first unranked team to ever shut out 2 ranked teams in successive games.
After Mizzou lost to Indiana at home, they lost a lot of respect so they're probably sneaking up on teams now.
