Sam, get him his own birds. If he's interested in statistics, get him to keep track of eggs or something. If he likes building stuff, get him to build a coop. If he likes playing with a camera, get him to photograph them. Find some way to trick him to paying attention to the birds, he might learn to like them.

They will likely always be "your dumb birds" but he helps butcher.. Not bad for someone who was a vegetarian until recently... I think getting in on coop design and build will help though... At least then it will be level not that the birds will care...
 
How did he get you hooked on chickens I need to get my hubby hooked...
Well, it started when we got fresh eggs one day from a lady down the road. We saw her chickens and thought they were pretty cool. After that we bought our brahmas off of craig's list along with a chicken coop. We wanted different breeds so we ordered some eggs, and bought an incubator. When I saw the actual hatching, that's what got me.
