Yup i bet that hurts... Kills the testy in 6 hours give or take... It twist and restricts or stops blood flow :sick
Glad that not what's going on...

When I was playing football my junior year .... I forgot my " protective wear " and got hit there and they twisted! I have never been in so much pain in my life! A trip to the ER and emergency surgery and all was right with the world again.

Does any one use killing Cones?

As far as sharp knifes I been looking at this site....

deb
no.. we have never used cones... we have used bailing twine, in a lasso around the body, and also the bailing twine holding their feet together, and hanging them upside down from whatever.

Also, you can use bailing twine in two lassos, one to hold the legs together, with one end, and on a nail/fencepost/whatever with the other end, ditto with the head of the bird. Then, he is nice and stretched out for you, and you could use an ax all by yourself, or whatever.

As far as knives.... I have never wanted to buy any 'special for butchering' knives, since we already have a bunch. Any fixed blade that is sharpen-able is great. I just wash them in the sink, I don't steralize.

Two freshly sharpened knives per bird is dream-worthy.

I am pretty nonchalant when it comes to germs.

Sure is nice that your hubby was home during the excitement.

Luckily hernias are usually no big thing, but what a roller coaster ride of stress!!!

That might be what it is diva... For now he's home... Tough little bugger... Back to the hospital in the a.m.

JW Oooouch!! But u never forgot ur cup again...

Good luck to the poor little guy. Hope they can figure things out..and get this fixed so he can feel well in time for Christmas!

Sam, hope your kid is okay by now. You must have been terrified.

JW, sounds painful.

Deb, I like the lasso around feet method too. I hang the bird from it's feet upside down, and raise a garbage bag around it's head after decapitation or slicing the jugular, that way it collects the blood and if you have't decapitated it, it stays a lot calmer when it's eyes are covered. Hanging the bird upside down seems to keep them pretty calm before cutting too, I haven't seen a need for a cone.

I do the hanging by the feet thing, too. Have an old oak tree.... So Tom Dooley. I've found that disposable scalpels are great! 1 per bird does a clean throat slice and then processing before the blade starts sawing a lot.
