The Old Folks Home

Wisher many of us really do appreciate the job Law Enforcement does. It's infortunate the the vocal minority can really mess things up so bad, no matter what the issues are. The media is so vocal and IMO have changed America more than the ordinary everyday regular citizen. Many times lately, changed for worse. One example is the young women dress. When I see some of them trying to imitate Hollywoods bad taste I feel like the 70's and the struggle in womens issues never happened. How can the world take women as serious intelligent people if the image young women put out there is objectified. The media puts everything so much in our face and amps up the feeding frenzy on everything anymore. When I hear of fallen officers it makes me truly sad because another good person is gone. Usually because of some senseless crime and issue that should have and could have been averted except for some idiot who thought the law wasn't made for them. Law enforcement officers as a whole are a good group. There are as in any group of people, some who are not good. That doesn't make the whole group bad. You, Wisher, have my admiration and Thanks!

Not to me - I picture a little mouse jumping up as I enter that room - so many spots for him to hide in

Reminds me of the potato shavings we used to find on the floor around a sack of potatoes. I kept telling my father we must have mice. He said NO because he didn't find any droppings. Well we found potatoes with teeth marks in them. Still he said NO mice. Finally we nagged him till he set a trap. In the course of a day, he had to empty it 8 times (mice). He still said we didn't have mice.

. That was many years before he developed dementia. I think he was a "carrier" and gave' it' to us long before he got' it.'

When my girls were very little, we bought a very old house (1870's) and lived by a livestock transfer yard. At night I started to hear gnawing on the wood in the basement and the walls. I told the spouse we had big mice. He disagreed for several weeks.

Until one morning he opened the door under the sink and a nasty critter was looking at him. He came upstairs and told me don't open the sink doors or the basement door. Why I asked? Uhmm well I uh saw an uhm a rat under the sink.

I was livid.

First I called an exterminator, then I called the health department. The guy was friends of the stock yard owner. Of course. That's why he didn't see the rat holes and tunnels in the 6 foot high piles of mostly hog manure behind the building, even though they were in plain sight.

The exterminator said they tunneled from there to under our crawl space under the kitchen which was open to the basement. Our foundation was only 2 feet down and rats can tunnel as deep as 4 feet. It took 3 months to get rid of them totally and we had the exterminator come for years until they did away with the stock yard and put up storage units and apartments. To this day I get the creeps just thinking about crawl spaces.

Oh I wouldnt have loose food as in the pix but jars of home canned stuff and the potato bin would have small mesh hardware cloth. any bin would have the same like for onions... etc.

I have four to five kinds of mice and rats in the desert.... from cute little church Mousies.... to Pack rats.... Church mousies are just like mickey mouse... big ears.... I had one come in the back door once while I was working on the computer.... It sat on the door mat and very precicely cleaned its huge ears and whiskers... I held my breath...

sooo dang cute.... Not my pix... All eyes and ears and a creamy white underbelly....

I cant keep mice out of the house the desert is very resourceful.... but I can make food storage cabinets difficult to break in to.

When I rebuild the kitchen all my food storage cabinets will have steel liners of some sort. and gaskets on the doors with latches. Too many years living with rats in the house I am obsessed in making a rodent proof larder.

deb

pack rat cause massive damage to car wiring.... they make nests out of cactus needles and I have one inside the pump house thats probably a good three feet by three feet by three feet.

Kangaroo rat soo cute can do about ten miles an hour ahead of the car.....

church mice I am revising this I think it was a Pack Rat juvenile....

wolf mice or grasshopper mice wolf because they howl.... Only strictly carniverous mouse in the US.
