Gonna re-name 1 of these little cockerels "bill cosby"...for various reasons
Wow, I really envy you that place. We have nada like that here.Went to Soulard Market for groceries yesterday. It's the oldest farmers' market west of the Mississippi.
Among other things, I got:
7 limes for $1. My local grocer sells 2 for $3.
2 pineapples for $1. Local grocer, $3 each.
12 pints of blackberries for $5. Grocer $3 each.
2 mangoes for $1.
On the other hand, farm eggs were $3 while the grocer is selling cage eggs for 99 cents a dozen. They're selling below cost to get people to buy their baking goods there.
I scored some great hand made hot links, Weiss wurst, goat meat, hot head cheese and a nice piece of sashimi grade tuna.
For lunch today it was a sandwich of a couple slices of hot head cheese, brick cheese, spring greens, tomatoes and german mustard.
Well, since you all are getting so festive in avatars..have to try something with mine...hmmmmm...???
guess depends on your supply demand I think he is over priced least I wouldnt wanna pay for that much for eggs that may or may not hatch 15/20 and they pay shipping doesnt seem that bad to me for 6 eggs but thats me I think when it starts getting so high for an egg that may or may not hatch it's like tossing money away and say 30 for a dozen but thats me.. I have seen some higher prices but thats about average I see on craiglist n stuff what I said can find em cheaper if you hunt but shrugs...ADVICE PLEASE
Ok, last year I sold fertile eggs from chickens straight from Cackle hatchery. They were pure bred, but that was it. I sold them for $1 an egg for bantam d'uccle, regular mille fleur color. I sold fertile muscovy duck eggs (and I have fancy colors) for $2 each.
I felt like I was robbing people blind. And I pretty much sold all I had, at least during "hatching season".
Now I have had a request for my marans eggs. To do that, I would have to separate out the Marans for about three weeks, before
I collect the eggs. This would be a bit of a pain, but not a horrid pain, and doable.
Someone else in Alaska has Marans that lay nice dark eggs, but he is in Fairbanks (far away from the metropolis of Anchorage, even further than I am), and he charges: (his quote)
I was selling last yr $30 for 6 and $ 50 for a dozen.Plus about $12- $14 for shipping.
What should I charge? And yes, I would also have to ship to this person, I did ship one set of my bantam eggs last year.
Since he is a past customer and your Marans are good stock I'd go $20 doz and shipping. And since you live in Alaska, prices go up. I'd charge $30 +shipping for new customers. You'll get it too. Probably a lot more customers than the other guy.ADVICE PLEASE
