The Old Folks Home

Deb: its hard to think that some of our neighbors to the north have never tasted real greens...I have mailed about 10 lbs of mustards, georgia collards, and turnips seeds to our neighbors.

Never ate collards until I had them at a Cracker Barrel restaurant, they were good. Love swiss chard, just started eating kale, super good for you. But my favorite is young beet greens when we thin them out in the garden when the beets are about the size of a marble, the greens are super tasty!

Growing up, Mom would send us to the back of our property to pick mustard greens. We also grew chard each year in the garden. Collards were not as common but an aunt used to grow it too.

Very tasty stuff!

I shot a video today of my NYD hatched chicks. They are trader joes and Blue Black Splash Australorps.

A actually spoke in the video too!

Turnips are very closely related to beets and radishes. They all make a delicious root veggy

Some people don't like turnips, I always ask them if they've tried them raw, taste just like a radish without the heat. I made a few quarts of pickled raw turnips, slice them like thick french fries, pickle them in a viniger
and little salt brine, and a slice of beet, turns them pink and sweetens them a little, cold packed. Took them up to bear camp in the Adirondacks, the guys said that sounds gross, tried them, then the drunks gobbled em up!

@vehve

back in nursing school in 1983 I learnt a very important thing: You dont eat you dont poop. If you dont poop, you die.

I am glad your psycho broody is now pooping

I would have asked for pictures but the new TOFH super family friendly image may get tarnished
