The Old Folks Home

My Fiskars sewing scissors beat the pants off of all the other brands that I have (I have a total of 5 scissors in that room).

However, for pins, what do you guys have?

The best I've found so far are these:

They work great and are strong. The tin is just about the coolest thing, ever. I might have let out a squeal once I figured it out. No more loose pins in my bag! I just wish they had the round glass heads.

I admit that I skipped a few pages

Oz as usual your children are just adorable! How soon until you get to bring them to the states?
Cynthia, did I misunderstand you? Are you not moving to Maine? I didn't think you were insane like SCG.

Beautiful shots of warm beaches! Wish I could go to one now although like Cynthia said, it has been so unusually warm here. I went for a hike on Saturday up in the mountains and the snow levels up there were way low for this time of year.
SCG that was Lake Powell we saw and yes it is way low too. I want to say it was 30% lower than it's high point if I remember correctly from the boat trip DH and I took to Rainbow bridge.
Here are a few pictures from my hike up to Lake Blanche.

Love the photos as usual..especially those leaves for some reason. No, not moving to Maine. I'm only a little bit as crazy as SCG.
You two saw Lake Powel? Last Time I was there I was so disappointed, and, we actually hit a rock when we thought we were plenty far out from the shore in our boat. Thank goodness it just skimmed over it, but we felt it. Had to stop and check things out. Back in the 70's, that lake was full! AR. is taking a lot of the water too, not just the droughts.

dudes... help me with me single comb rose comb question....

Wish I could. I have a very strict breeding program here where anything can breed with anything it wants to create babies (the only exclusions is no human babies must be made). Therefore, I cannot tell you with any degree of knowledge what produces what (with exception of turken genetics, which I am quite good at).

dudes... help me with me single comb rose comb question....

This site explains it all very clearly:

There is a gene for pea and a gene for rose and both are heterozygous or dominant. If either are present, then the comb will not be straight. To get chicks back to straight, you need to breed rose to straight and then cull for straight comb in the chicks.

Or get out the fiskars and start fresh.

well, thanks...

and I finally found the answer I was looking for:

Comb type in chickens basically is controlled by two different genes on two different chromosomes. One is the rose comb gene (represented by the letter R), and the other is the pea comb gene (represented by the letter P). A presence of the gene is represented by the uppercase letter; an absence of the gene is represented by the lowercase letter. Both the rose comb gene and the pea comb gene can express themselves in the heterozygous state. That is, only one copy of the rose comb gene or the pea comb gene is sufficient for that type of comb to occur. Therefore, both genes can be thought of as dominant genes.

haha!

exactly what I found!

Which is so funny.... because yesterday as I kept googling, I must have been using the wrong key words, because nothing good came up.

I am just SUPER ticked because I have one ROSE COMB Dark Brown Leghorn, and one ROSE COMB Dominique... and hatched out 2 yellow chicks with single combs
