The Old Folks Home

7 more days to payday, won't pay for a well being dug! Wow. You have a lot going on. You do need to get away for a bit, even if there is stuff to do at your place. I realize that you aren't thinking on getting that well for a while, but I hope it is a possibility for you in the near future. That's great that yours has lasted so long! You sound like you are pretty handy at what most women .. need a man to do. Whoot!
I remember back in the 60's, my grandmother had a well in VA. I loved the taste of that water!

I have always had to do for myself... but I know my limitations... Plumbing I figured out pretty quickly... Light electrical stuff like replacing a switch for a dimmer or putting in a new light fixture... Demolition yep...

I get help where I can. My neighbor Tom is a roofer and pretty handy too. I try not to pester him too much though.

Nice looking peepers! Hope they continue to work for you and the birds.

Caught my dark brahma limping last week. Thought maybe she and the rooster got into a disagreement. She was still limping this week so two days ago I picked her up to see what was going on and one of her (feathered) toes was gigantic with a big nasty bumble. The scab came off nice and easy with just pulling after soaking, and I've got it packed with antibiotic ointment and wrapped and she's in the basement now.

She's likely pleased about that. The basement is 50 degrees, whereas it's -20 or so outside right now. Unfortunately she has to listen to a brooder full of 19 juvenile chickens... wonder if that's the equivalent of living next to a middle school playground? My poor brahma.

Well, I reckon the county school officials are patting themselves on the back this morning, though not-so-fragrant substances may be flying over at the DOT. Yesterday, the weather service forecast said we had a 60% chance of precipitation, though with the temperatures hovering around freezing, whether it would be the wet stuff or the white stuff was pretty much up in the air. No significant accumulation expected. I expected to hear that school would be delayed so they could assess things this morning, but they went ahead and canceled in anticipation of "hazardous driving conditions."

Now here I am this morning, watching the white stuff coming down.Pretty, and pretty rare for here. They say it may switch over to freezing rain late this afternoon - now that's some nasty stuff. It'll be interesting to see what the roads are like. Last week, the DOT sprayed de-icer on the roads in anticipation of cold and wet conditions that just barely missed each other; this time, if the trucks went out, it was really late - I saw no evidence of it last night.

It was -17 here when the kids got on the school bus. Every school in the area was on two hour delay except for ours. The wife forced me out of bed to give them a ride down our long driveway. Our Suburban had been running for fifteen minutes and was still blowing cold air.

Keep us posted on how well they work
They work. Keep a supply on hand. I personally trim the nose pins down a bit and file them to make sure there are no sharp "bits" anywhere. I also magic marker eyes and glasses on them, for my personal amusement tho the offending girl usually doesn't seem to appreciate being laughed at.
