The Old Folks Home

Dsgard if the tundra swans are headed to Alaskan and to mate, are you telling us Alaskan is a swan? Just a tiny bit confused here.

Totally correct!

I am a swan, sounds great.

I am not sure which sex swan I am, but I am a swan.

Now the question is, am I a black swan, a white swan, a trumpeter swan (I am clearly not a mute swan

Ok, got up at what would normally be 0330, but that is now the much more normal hour of 0430... headed out to the coop with my bottle of Pam spray and my ivermectin pour on. There's currently 46 birds in the chicken/turkey coop and I planned on treating them all.

The Pam started off working pretty good, nice wide stream, I was able to hit the feet pretty well. The birds didn't like being forced or grabbed off their roost, they didn't like the ivermectin, and they didn't want to stand still with legs extended for the Pam. Pam worked best when the birds were standing still and upright on the roost. But then they were all greasy when I went to grab them for their ivermectin. Ivermectin is definitely the first step in the process. Pam is the last.

About 15 birds in the Pam nozzle started to clog. At about 20 birds in the Pam nozzle pretty much ceased working. Luckily I had bought the 2-pack at Sam's Club the day before.

Unfortunately the same thing happened with the second bottle of Pam.

So I've got about 3/4 of the feet done well, and about 1/4 done crappily.

For those of you that don't like turkens, I'd like to go on record of stating they are by far the easiest bird to use ivermectin pour on with. That, alone, must be worth something.

So I think I wasted about 2 hours of my life this morning. I do usually treat with ivermectin pour on every spring and fall, so I just got it done earlier this year. I will have to go out again and repeat the pour on in 7 to 10 days.

Edited to add that I went to go clean the Pam nozzles now and they're actually working. The issue was likely one of temperature (it was 2F) and not of use.

YAY! Dh is home safe. He took a trailer from Florida, to Indiana, and back in all that snow. I won't be hearing anymore about him wanting to retire up north, and how he misses the snow! He was glad to get home, and VERY glad to see me. He brought back all sorts of good stuff. Dd and I went to see Loretta Lynn on Friday. We had a great time, and topped it off with strawberry shortcake.

Last time I was on here, there was talk of old folks home, this guy has been here for a long time because of his illness..look what he can do!

That is amazing.

What fascinates me are those people who are so resilient through whatever life throws at them and then others who are in a similar situation who are so angry or who just give up. Like the man said "what CAN you do?".
