The Old Folks Home

My problem is that I come from a long line of Doctors..... and my dad spent years training doctors and coming home and telling me about all of the mistakes that they had made......

My dad went in to emergency on a friday at Kaiser having a hard time catching his breath.. They gave him an EKG and a Breathing treatment and Oh by the way you have had a mild heart attack in the past month... they sent him home telling him to make an appointment for a stress test on The next Monday. NOt "we will keep you in for the night for observation" He came home and the next morning he died of a massive heart attack right in his chair in the livingroom.

No I am not bitter... I am angry.

Smart people can be awfully dumb - keeps 'em humble.

I minored in Chemistry in college. One of my classmates who almost always scored highest on the tests was so dangerous in the lab, nobody wanted to work in the station next to her.

I call my younger brother "the Ubergeek" because, well, I'm not sure exactly how to say what it is that he does, but he heads up a department that is, among other things, responsible for the computers in an entire government office building. When he screws up, he can crash all of the computers in the building simultaneously (and he has done it at least once . . . .)

Now, now. Many are, but many aren't.

All the testing that's done today is causing more "incidental-omas" to be found. Things that are subclinical that may or may not actually be significant. However, you run the risk of being sued/losing your license if you ignore it and it turns out bad for the patient.
i would not be a doctor for quids

if you were to pass your profession's certification exams with a 95% pass rate then you would be high fiving but what about the doctor that gets 1 in 20 wrong?

i would hate to have to be perfect every day of my life

Welcome to all the newbies! I'm glad to see more Old Folks and more general BYCers.

I'm Wisher.

I am the thread starter of The Old Folks Home and reluctant Sergeant at Arms. I keep Riff and Raff in line....... or at least I try.
