The Old Folks Home

Howdy, Woo!

I thought maybe you accidentally made a left turn when you meant to hang a right and wound up here by accident. It can be risky business, wandering in here - you might get drafted into pushing wheelchairs, or something.;)

But perhaps it would be worth the wisdom I could glean from my elders?

I ended up with cat spray (all of the things I used had the same active ingredient). The spray was much faster...

Now you see why I go with the spray to start with. With 50ish birds, spray is the way to go.

A couple weeks back I had noticed one of my plants in the kitchen side garden was going crazy (a gourd plant). Finally got the kitchen side garden pulled up today, and this was the pickins off that one single plant.

The plant had a gourd every 8 to 24 inches. It even grew two of these:

I guess chicken poop put on full strength in fall and then tilled in in spring works great as a fertilizer.

Gourds. I kept crappy records this year so I don't even know where they came from. Probably Fedco but maybe Johnny's. I'll have to plant 1/4 of a seed next year to get the amount of gourds I need. Maybe 1/16 of a seed.

Edited to add final count: 44 singles and 3 doubles!!!

Have to ask, what do you use the gourds for? I just use them for decoration. :p There are some cute ones in that bunch. I could use about 4 of those right now.
