The Old Folks Home

Scg I was very touched by your idea of gifting and planting the bulbs your dad used to plant. What a wonderful thing to share.

This is why I am only doing chores by daylight these days.
When California has enough rain to make the creeks flood, which is in the winter to early spring, hibernating rattlesnakes will sometimes float up into trees in orchards. When they wake up in the Spring, they can create a very dangerous condition for workers....

Oh, just saw the recipe competition. I think Bama's gonna win.

Hey Al! Second morning below freezing here, how about there?

The usual... Cold and grumpy.

We have had three snow falls... But also OODLES of rain. My pond is finally properly full (which is great, since my well was a bit spotty this summer, it is nice to have more reliable water again).

However, the peppers in my green house are still alive :idunno not sure why... I was able to bring one into the house, I didn't have space for more.

I am COLD. grump, grump.

And yep, no heater... I have had a few fires, but not many, and not yet constant.

Two nights back I heard my chickens squawking, and ran out to find a great horned owl trying to eat then... He couldn't find a way into the run (:ya yeah!) but the chickens didn't like looking at his big scary claws. It took me an hour to run about, around midnight, and get everyone under even more secure lock and key.

No, just a Copperhead. As venomous snakes go, not really bad, but it's still not any fun to get bitten by one.

I've heard that Copperheads are responsible for a large percentage of the snake bites in this country, often when a person is trying to kill the snake. When the kids were little, I would have tried to kill it, but now I figure anyone here is old enough to know how to stay safe around them - leave them alone!

Bunny I couldn't even see that 'S' thing until I enlarged your photo - then I was sorry I did. Can't you cut his head off with a long handled hoe - to serve as a warning to his kin.?

Very glad to hear that she DIDN'T kill it! They are very beneficial to have around to control vermin! Why poison the environment when these animals will help take care of the mice and rats for you? It's not like they seek us out to attack us! We normally get bitten when we surprise them or mess around with them. Leave them alone, and they leave us alone.
