re: Hidden keys
Used to be the doors could remain unlocked... I grew up in a town like that. But in areas with sticky fingers it's vital to lock your home and -- unfortunately, oops -- sometimes you can get locked out, either the door locks behind you and you've forgotten your keys or... Well, you don't have a key on you. At those times if you don't have a family member handy that might have a copy of your key (and they're home when you call..and hopefully you don't have to hike to a local store in your PJ's to make a collect call [yeah, been there, done that]) it's a good idea to have a hidden key. Don't place it in a typical location, like on a door sill or under a mat or flower pot, but some other creative place (like wired to the bottom of a bird feeder, hidden in the chicken coop, buried in a container) You may never have to use it. But if you do you'll be ecstatic you had some foresight.
