The Old Folks Home

I wasn't hunting with them that day but my brother in law shot a buddy of mines beagle. Was using a sawed off shotgun, wide pattern dog wasn't far behind rabbit. Dog wasn't hurt bad. He told my wife he didn't know why the guy was crying over it.
He shot his dog! He's had the old girl since he was 16.
They never invited him to go again for some reason.

If I had it, I would burn it.

He screwed my friend BAD a few years ago- sent her a very sick hen with a lot of options she never ordered, like gape worms etc., had to bathe her 3 times to get most of the stench and poo off of her. Said he'd get a replacement to her - never did. I told her by the huge list of breeds etc. it sounded like a poultry mill. I told her do not buy from that person - she did anyway and YES, I do keep saying "I told you so." She found hen dead one morning with little worms coming out of her mouth.

So what qualifies as "old people" here in the home?

I have it was a recipe by Graham Kerr Back when I was in highschool. It was back in 1970ish. Safeway actually had rabbit on occasion I was barely driving and had a little money.

The ingredients required me to make my own sausage suffing from scratch We had a meat grinder I ground up pork and beef and garlic and onions... I forget what else. sTuffed the rabbit and sewed it up. Then herbs and butter on the outside and Roasted it in the oven.

Its been 46 years since I cooked it but I do remember my dad LOVED it Mom she wouldnt look at it till I cut two leggs off then she was like Homer Simpson eating Pinchy.....

Havent had it since. They stopped selling it in stores. And I havent been to a real butcher shop in that long either.

OMG food network had the recipe

I forgot this is where I learned how to bone a rabbit.....

The Galloping Gourmet! I used to watch his show every week. I bought one of his books when I was in Jr. High. First 'fancy' thing I ever cooked was Boeuf Bourguignon.

(Does that qualify me as "old people"??)

Those are the 2 threads that are usually up at the top of the home page when I check in with it.

They are so hard to keep up with But very informative and the next minute very funny.

I might regret clicking that link

Thanks guys. I just might have to more seriously consider it.

My husband and I hunt deer and turkey, so its all getting a bit easier for me. We've only been keeping chickens for a little over a year, and have only had to cull one. He got mean, so it was an easy decision, and process. I'm expecting a call about some quail eggs to hatch and some process-ready young ones, so we thought we'd try the quail first. But I do very much appreciate all of you folks' insights!

If you can kill and eat Bambi, you can kill and eat Thumper

BTW, I read the book (given to my Dad in the early 30's). Hate to burst anyone's bubble but there is no Thumper and there is no Flower. Disney screws up every story.

I've never tasted beagle, but I have a shotgun.

Why go hatchery when everyone here loves u alaskan?

I can't find anyone with awesome Dominiques.... And he would ship me live chicks.

Diva, that sucks about your friend, but I think the chance of the chicks being diseased are way lower... And I have heard great stuff about the chicks he sends out.

The quality varies between breeds (of course), but his Dominiques are very good.

One issue with him is that he DOES get swamped with orders and OFTEN can't fill them all.
