The Old Folks Home

Hey, SCG!

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your introduction to Southern cuisine.

So tell me, is it true - they say that you can't even get to Heaven without being routed through Atlanta?

Oh, yes, Southern cooking . . . .

Many years ago, Charles Kuralt and Loonis McGlohon created a musical called "North Carolina is my Home;" a collection of essays, poems, and songs about the people and places of "the Old North State." Whenever the subject of Southern cooking comes up, I am reminded of this part:

We had only one homemade meal while on our visit... Well, two if pancakes count...Black-eyed peas (dried,) fresh collard greens (with homemade pepper sauce) hot buttered cornbread, and ribs from the grill (thank you, DH!) I was going to make "Irsh potatoes" (Irish in granny-speak) but we got in late and it takes time to do them right. A right proper southern meal, I'd say......

We had a great time! Dsqrd and SCG are every bit the wonderful people IRL that they are here in The Home. They walked me all over creation and half of Hades, but it was fun. We laughed and laughed and picked on each other, and didn't give a happy rat what other people thought of it.

I taught SCG some southern expressions, but I'll let her share those once she's had some time to perfect them.

Isn't there some rule or law against assaulting a police officer? I guess that might be one way to get to spend some extra time down south where it's warm... Gosh SCG... Nice water pictures. Hope y'all are having a great time there.

Nice build Felix... umm what is its purpose? green house? Are the neighbors OK with you building it on their side of the fence? I wish my neighbor would build ME a green house on my side of the fence...

Maybe the rule only applies to on duty officers?

Late, yeah, it's a greenhouse. The property it's on is undeveloped. I asked the owner if we can rent it when we moved in. He said no, but that we can borrow it if I like. I'm kinda pushing it with a greenhouse, but I figure he won't mind temporary structures, and he never comes here anyway.

Sweeeeeeeet!!

Yeah, she really wouldn't appreciate being nibbled on, though she might try nibbling on you, too.

Macchiato is a baby Mini Rex at what I consider the cutest age (2-3 weeks old). The color is called Chocolate; I always find it just a little bit funny to have buns of that color born around Easter time.

Cute bunny!

I am home safe and sound(ish).

BF took better care of the animals while I was gone than I do. He bought the birds a flock block, changed out the batteries in all my motion lights outside, bought the turkey in the basement meal worms and even scooped poop boards!
