The Old Folks Home

Does that mean her bumble foot is all gone?

No but she's had a full month of antibiotics and her feet have significantly improved. The foot that was the worst feels like there's a large scab under the skin (and it's cold to the touch) but there's really no bumble on the foot to speak of to be able to rip off.
So we decided to put her back out there, see if another bumble forms or see if she's just going to have "big feet" (one big pad) after this latest episode. The rest of the feet look pretty good. The skin is a bit stretched between the toes but there's no swelling anymore.

The high school shooting at a prom last night on the news this morning was ours.

If you every thought it can't happen in our small town, don't.

Prayers please for the two students and the shooter's family.

Don't forget to add the brave officers that were present on scene
who ran toward the shots and able to quickly bring the shooter down.

2 years ago, I bought an Amaryllis bulb at Wal-Mart. It did fine, but a few months ago, I knew I needed to put it in a bigger container, with fresh potting soil. Since it was off-season, the selection for containers was sparse, and they were expensive. We had a bunch of empty, clean, Tidy Cat plastic buckets that were the right size, except they were too tall, so Dh cut them all the way around, a little taller than half way up, for me. I drilled holes in the bottom for drainage, and set the bottom half inside the top half. The results were that the top half would extend up, without damaging the plant, and I could carry it by the handle, then set it where I wanted, push down the handle, and extended upper portion, and it would be the right height again. It didn't cost me any money.

In position, and collapsed back down.

So sorry soup.

Shooter turned out to be an eighteen year old kid. Life flighted to the big hospital trauma center to the south. He didn't make it. The girl he shot received treatment and later released. Her prom date is in surgery right now but thought to going to be ok. No news yet on motive and unless he left a note behind, we may never know if he intended to shoot more as they came out the door or just those two. Just happened that those two officers were outside to do traffic control as the prom was ending. (and I would imagine to keep the ensuing horseplay to a minimum). The rest of the kids were kept locked inside the school for over two hours as they made sure there were no more shooters. They released the shooter's name and he bears the same last name as a very respected local family and there are several local businesses bearing that name as well. Just a tragedy all around. What a grey cloud over what should be a great memory for these kids.

After making the containers, I replanted my tulips, and amaryllis bulbs. The poor amaryllis was totally root bound, so I trimmed back the roots, and replanted it. The tulips did fine, but the amaryllis suffered a little transfer shock. The leaves began falling off. I also noticed that something was chewing off the leaves on the tulips, so I dusted it with Sevin. Whatever it was chewing on the leaves, the Sevin took care of. In the meantime, Dh kept telling me I had killed my amaryllis, and had no idea what I was doing in regards to it. I assured him, I knew exactly what I was doing, it wasn't dead, and it would be fine. Despite my assurances, he didn't believe me, and kept wanting to throw out the dead amaryllis. I wouldn't let him. This is a current picture of my dead amaryllis.
