@Pensmaster, Some people think you need to add apple cider vinegar to fermented feed. That makes it acidic acid ferment, you want natural lactic acid ferment like sauerkraut, I don't add anything.
Some people use three containers and go three days, refilling them in rotation. I use a five gallon bucket and go just one day, save a little and add to it, gets it going faster. I keep it the consistency of oatmeal, no need to drain and it ferments pretty good in one day in warm weather, like Latestarter said smells like sourdough bread. I've never had it go bad.
Edit that, when I first start it I do wait three days.
I'll never feed dry feed again, I think my feed bill got cut in half.
