The Old Folks Home

Pure spent grains wouldn't provide all the nutrients the birds need either. They'd be kinda like Diva eating nothing but ice cream... you know, very happy, but wasting away... with a smile.

I've heard the same with sunflower seeds, good supplement, too much is too much fiber from the shells and they don't get enough food.

I've watched them pick through it as if leaving the biggest part of the fiber. Still they get quite a bit of it. I'm finding what they leave is making for great deep litter

Here's a picture of the grains. They've been rough ground to remove more of the sugar.

Finally got back to sewing yesterday. Working the border on this quilt. Still have a ways to go before it is ready to quilt. Unfortunately I won't be able to touch it for about a week. I have to travel today to Huntsville, AL for a week of training. I would love finally seeing our operations down there if it weren't for the fact I basically just got to PA and now I am on the road. I also have to go to AZ for a couple of days in June but luckily traveling is not a large part of the job. I just happened to catch it at the "right" time.

Ok, this is very pretty. And, I've been gone for a while. You are training? Are you still here in Utah? Or, are you getting ready to move? Be safe with all of this traveling.

I give my girls sunflower seeds. Glad I had heard that it may keep them from eating the lay food they need. Didn't know that it could cause a problem with their tummies. Anyway, I throw out a handful of seed along with manna once or twice a week. The calf manna is great stuff..especially in the winter when they aren't finding the bugs. Great protein. Like I said, not much given in the summer. They get more fruit and veggies in the summer though. :)

So you just leave this bucket out for them to pick in? Looks like something a chicken would like.

I'm not into the fermenting thing. I do however do fodder for the winter.

Latestarter believe me I am not wasting away, I am reaching new highs on the BMI scale. Notice that no one gives me "clean dish award," after I finish my ice cream. I guess it's so other folks don't get jealous.
