The Old Folks Home

Lol. That is all a myth we created to keep Alabama less populated.
We don't keep it a secret - we have three kinds of rattlesnakes, copperheads, water moccasins, and coral snakes - but it doesn't keep people from coming here. There's a bumper sticker; "Welcome to Wrightsville Beach - now go home!"

I do suppose there is a difference between Southern and Northern California in that respect. I am fifth generation Californian on my Mom's side. Maybe it is because your family came from the South to California?

I have never heard them called Pit vipers up here, likely because pit viper is a class of all snakes that are not real vipers. Apparently those are in Africa mostly. I had to look up pit vipers to find out that Rattle snakes are a sub set of them.

Question, to all pit vipers have rattles?

Ron, you may be right. My family did get around from Ireland to Canada all over the USA to Calif. And I feel kind of like I am home here.
There are things I miss about Cali. I loved Northern Caif. I was in Monterey, San Fran and a few little towns around bay area.
My Mom's family moved to the Grass Valley\Auburn area in 1849. They were not Miner 49rs but were Sheep Ranchers. I was Born in Red Bluff then moved to Corning and now live in Woodland.

I am second generation Californian.... have lived in the Arid parts all my life.... 'Berdu, Colton, then out of state for four years Roswell, Las Vegas.... then back to California namely San Diego. Where I have lived for almost 50 years now. I have NEVER lived where there was alot of rain... ever. Nor natural trees or large fields of grass.... I have family in the Mojave.... too hot for me..... LOVE it in the winter though.
