The Old Folks Home

Diva... You're up in Chicago aren't you? The land of 100% gun bans? The gun murder capitol of the US? Maybe it's not fireworks you're hearing? Maybe it IS a war zone? Maybe you should move (to a warmer place) down south and get away from the madness!

Yeah fireworks when there's 18+ hours of sunlight... not too effective for sure. Might be super cool to watch fireworks with the aurora borealis as a backdrop. wow.

Hey DiDi!
fl.gif
for a smooth rest of your transition!

Deb, Disney parks do the same thing. fireworks every night. Of course aside from CA where they started, they secretly buy up the entire county around where they plan to build a park, so there aren't normally any "neighbors" to complain. I would guess that you'd become accustomed to them after a bit and not even hear them anymore. I go to bed late, so they wouldn't bother me regardless.

Hope everyone had a great 4th weekend, no issues/accidents/etc. For most I guess it's now back to the weekly grind. Next long weekend - dog days of summer in early September. Hard to believe another year 1/2 done. They go by so quick anymore.

Yep we dont hear them at all unless someone points them out. We do hear bombing practice from Camp Pendleton though.... That is about 50 miles away. The news usually makes an announcement when they are practicing...

We are under the flight pattern for Miramar which used to be the Top Gun school.... Now the Marines took over its big A... heliocopters...

And you NEVER hear the Seals.... they are just sneaky...

So bangs and booms are a common event here in San Diego.

The shooting I don't mind. Usually someone firing off a few hundred rds on the weekends somewhere nearby. They don't do it at night. One close neighbor shot one of those tannerite things, that was NOT cool.
Close neighbor has a modified stock car and frequently tunes it between 10pm and 11pm during racing season. It is LOUD!
I would not want to live near a race track, or a place that does tractor pulls. We have a dirt track about 15 miles from here, you can hear it that far away.

That must have been quite a boom, to make you jump that much.

When I was pregnant with BB2K, we went to an outdoor drama called "Unto These Hills" in Cherokee. It's been done for donkey's years; the amphitheater is pretty much surrounded by houses. During the play, there is not only gunfire, but they also set off a cannon. I can just imagine the neighbors being like the Banks family in Mary Poppins when Admiral Boom marks the time, "places, everyone!"

Up at my house in the desert there is a private gun range..... Owned by Ex Miltary and gun shop owner. There are some Para Military that come up there to practice.... He has a tank and a cannon and I often times hear Automatic gun fire... Hes been on TV....

Cajon Speedway was just five miles from me when I was growing up .... 3/8 mile track.... Dirt and Demolition Derby... They would get the Midgets in there too. Loved it... evrey Friday night... I and my Horsy girlfriends would go about two or three times per year. It was almost as fun as going to the Rodeo.... Race car drivers.... Cowboys..... Oh Yeah.... Race track is gone.... So sad... You could tell it was racing season because on friday nights was when all the guys that had muscle cars would get full of themselves. Spent alot of time riding around in a souped up 55 Chevy with a hurst shfter and an intake manefold that stuck up through the hood....

Took my son to the drag races when he was about six up at Carlesbad Raceway.... Bought pit passes.... Only been twice in my life but both times I was mesmirized by the power.... Riding Katee is about the same experience by the way.... All that power and under the control of two single straps of leather....

Scg I could not imagine guineas in that situation! I knew chickens were loud so we built their coop about a 1/4 acre from the house. If I had gotten guinea's we would have had to build their coop in the back 40!

Thanks Chicka.... I only do horses cant do people.... um er rarely do people except in impressionistic form.

Guineas and Fireworks I can only imagine. I had about ten. You couldnt have a conversation out in the coop without making them shut up.... I used to use a soft whistle the kind you can do with your tongue on the roof of your mouth.... Shut everyone up for about two minutes...
