The Old Folks Home

Fall is my favorite season & it doesn't really exist in San Diego. We stay too hot to bake until at least late October & get zero color.

Our county fair is a agricultural one, this is it's 130th yr. Over a thousand animals and goes for a week. They even have poultry this yr, banned last yr. Tomorrow will be the only day we go. Was pretty cool when our oldest was in 4H we went almost everyday. Demolition derby and truck and tractor pulls are my favs, derby tickets sold out six months ago. They have draft horse pulls tomorrow, probably just watch that.

Still feels like summer here and we still have hummingbirds. Today was the last "free" day of my vacation. The next 4 days I am spending doing community service - helping to restore an old graveyard about an hour away with the Maine Old Cemetery Association. They're bringing in a consultant who works with you and shows you the proper way to do things so that after this 4 day "seminar" you can go do the work locally in abandoned cemeteries.

I can't believe almost a week has gone by - I spent the first part of my vacation sick and without energy, then doubled down on some chores (honeybees, cleaning the coops out) and of course a lot of sewing.

Our fair starts in 10 days and I'm looking forward to it. Not sure if I'm going to enter anything into it this year. The quilt I'm working on right now won't be done in the next 10 days and the one I have not yet given away I'm thinking won't be worth the hassle of driving there to enter it then driving back to pick it up after the fair is over.

Apple season should be starting here, soon. Can't wait for that and the crisp, cool nights. We got one day of rain this week, about 0.3 inches. We are still so dry.

That sounds awesome! I really love old cemeteries. I'd love to see pix.
