Somehow this is missed when people talk about the "good old days".not unheard of for women to go through twenty or more pregnancies... My Great Grandma had nine that lived and two that didnt make it so eleven pregnancies. Great grandma was fourteen when she married a Widower who was in his early thirties and had two children... age twelve and eleven. His first wife committed suicide. She was his cousin too.
That was the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s. When medical knowledge was further along than in the Colonial times.
