The Old Folks Home

I think she is. Most of my girls are molting right now so I'm only getting eggs from 4 'younger' hens. Today she was on the nest for 3 hours. Long after she had finished up her business. When I pulled out an egg she immediately growled at me and stuffed it back under her.If she is contemplating broodiness I rather she did it now then wait till December like one of my hens did last year.
They usually stop laying eggs when the broody hormone kicks in. I would wait until she stops laying to add eggs for hatching.

I hope she is a good broody!
Mine's been on them a week and she is MEAN. She will come after you (darn those turkeys and their long necks) even if you are just near her box.

A wild turkey showed up at the building I work at. Wild might be a bit of a stretch though since He followed me around like a pet! I had to go help with an Audio Visual problem and he followed one of our grad students off towards the Memorial Union.

I will see If I can get one of the pictures that staff took of him.

I can attest they don't lay my poor girl didn't have eggs but she was broody
gave her the chicks she accepted but the little peeps where not bright enough to stay

I have recipes if it's in season.

Might want to show them to your turkey on the nest if she attacks you again

I got on the scale yesterday and I'm sure my scream of dismay could be heard clear into town.

You get over 55 and it just adds up so quickly. I was another one of these lucky gals who was 98 pounds when I entered high school. Now if I could keep things at 125 I would be thrilled. Bad back, bad knee, DH and I used to do endurance cycling. Not anymore. He used to do 24 hour races. I used to ride centuries with him. Of course he rode them a lot faster than I did. LOL.

As for horses the first thing I learned about mine is that if they want you off their backs, you're out of there.

Yup even ponies I was about thirteen I was riding a pony called Whirlaway... My feet were about six inches from the ground... she got to trotting I got to gigging and zoom she did a Tron turn and I was on the ground...

No kids here either, just a chubby Pennsylvania Dutch gene I inherited from my dad that means I have to give a wide berth to anything that tastes good.

Mainly I graze the back yard for grass and twigs when I am hungry.

So far I have been pretty lucky with my broodies. Lil'Girl was a bit of spaz with this last batch. Pooped on them early on, kicked them out of the nest. She has been a first rate mom though. The chicks are 5 weeks old and she is still very much with them. One of the youngsters from my June hatch got into the grow out pen to visit and she left faster than she entered.

My other broody, Aggie is a great brooder and mom. If push comes to shove, Lil'Girl would probably be a good hen to graft chicks to should the need arise.

When they showed up at our gate they were both covered in a crust of mud and cow flop from head to foot. We figure they had spent some time with the cattle in a pasture down the road before they ventured up to our farm.

We scrubbed the crud off of them and washed Buck's feet which is when we found the injuries. Imagine. Raw skin and cow poop. Not a good combination. Both his front feet were infected and swollen. The vet gave him a shot of antibiotics and then an oral round and he responded very quickly. All we had to do was keep them clean and dry and they regenerated new pad very quickly.

He's a very sweet and happy boy who loves to 'guard' the chickens. It's probably a real challenge for him. The Border Collie half says "I gotta keep these critters in line!" while the Coon Hound half is telling him to tree them.

Here he is enjoying his 'first snow". Sometimes I just don't understand how people can be so cruel.

Those pups headed in the right direction and to a great forever home..yours!

That's what that noise was.

I quit smoking and gained 50 lbs.

Then I got divorced.

Now I don't want to talk about it.

Turkey is still broody.

This is all true? I am way behind. Congratulations, on the quitting of smoking. We won't talk about the rest. Unless, your turkey hatches babies, then we want photos.
