The Old Folks Home

Thanks starting to eat it this morning now.. they leave skin on the watermelon also
On the production thread, a person posted that chickens sometimes like letting things rot a little before eating them. pumpkin flesh is quite hard so it makes sense that they would wait unit it "softened" up a bit.

Chickens are a bit of a scavenger for sure!

I sent you the eggs. And their moms were broody all the time! I had a heck of a time trying to get them off the nest. But I guess that's heritage birds for ya.

She sure is pretty. My girls never raised their feathers at me like that though.

She is MEAN (when she's on the nest, otherwise she's sweet). She will thwack her face/beak at you if you even walk in front of her nest box and has quite the reach. It's like Jurassic Park up in that coop when she's broody.

She's beautiful, thank you for sending them to me. I feel bad for the toms, she's my lone hen left (bad feet didn't make it) and they have no one to watch them strut now. They're starting to be jerks because of it, and they follow me around the run and try to peck me. I'm thinking turkey sausage.

As promised, more of the Turkey visit at UC Davis, Voorhies Hall.

The Turkey wanted to come in and visit. Sadly, one of our Staff is terrified of Turkeys!

....He looks so scary!

I had to go out to move him along. and he was very excited!

He even did a little dance--too bad I did not have any chicken feed.

One or our lecturers was having trouble getting a dvd to play and He followed us to the stair well!

He followed one of our Grad students after that to a field nearby.

I hope he finds his flock!

Ron for a turkey to want to hang around that many people it may have been dropped off like a dog or cat. How sad he just wants some company. Ron take him home with you and find him a good home.

Well you could have one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas. But maybe you should keep one just in case your broody vulture does not have a tom to give you more meat for next year. :)
I'm sorry bad feet did not make it. I just got a message from Ariel and she said she's going to be getting some turkey. So maybe you have a source for next spring if your interested. :)
I sure do miss my turkey. But we are not here much now. Camping when ever we can get away for a few days or a week. lol

Davis is a very Turkey friendly place. Talking to some of the residents, most of the turkeys are like him here. They feed them and walk up to them all the time.

He has not been back since so I think one of the students took him home with them.

I will let you know if he returns.
