The Old Folks Home

I spoke too soon yesterday. Went out hunting, temp dropped to around 24, blizzard snow and wind, been without power since 4pm yesterday. .. phone internet just came back on, they have no info on electric just hundreds are out in our county, thousands in the state, and another foot of snow and wind coming. .. :-(

I was wondering Beer Can if your weather wound up being worse than you first reported. I know DD got blizzard like conditions yesterday and she is in the southern part of the state. They also reported more lake effect snow this morning for NY on the local news. We got a little snow, mostly rain and some frozen rain since Saturday evening. Wind's been howling since then too. It is supposed to let up this evening finally. Definitely colder here this week. Looking forwards to Thanksgiving though. DD and her family are coming down Wednesday with a locally grown bird butchered on Saturday.

We will brine it over night. I think Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Permission to stuff yourself silly and you don't have to worry about wrapping anything.

Wow. Sorry you lost your power, I know too well what a pain that is. We have two generators we drag out way too often and were surprised we didn't have to this time. We got some 50+mph gusts on Saturday as the front moved thru us heading your way. Just some snow. Our temps have been creeping down every since. Lost our cloud cover last night and woke up to a very "crispy" 7o F but it's trying to warm up now.

I didn't have the radiant heater in the coop adjusted right and it got up to over 45o at roost level, darn. That's keeping the girls a bit too comfy. Only had it on at all because of the ridiculously sudden temp changes (we set a new record high on Friday above 60o!) and I have one bird that decided to EXPLODE her feathers off in a late molt. It will probably get colder tonight so I have to get that adjusted.

We have another one coming at us that should bring the temps up a bit but a lot more snow Tuesday night and is supposed to last all day Wednesday. Glad our next round of deer hunters aren't driving up until Thursday.

Woodland California, located at the South end of the Sacramento Valley, is getting It's kind of Winter too! We had rain Saturday and Sunday, Hopefully we will end our 5 year drought this year. The current estimate for dead trees in the Sierras is 180 million dead trees.

Today it is clear but the rain let Tooley Fog develop. We have not had a "hard" frost but I did see some white stuff on the roof on Friday.

Speaking of wind, we are very windy here sometimes--being in a big valley does that. I remember one that was approaching 100 mph--low level hurricane wind. Lost a lot of fences and power poles with that one. We usually get several high wind storms each year.
