This reminds me of my mini horse when we got nearly 2 feet of snow overnight! He stayed in the shed for over a week before the snow was low enough his belly would clear it! Even then he was following trails broken by the big horses (which were outside wandering around in the 2 foot snow... why? I don't know... their food and water was in the shed)

Yeah, what is it with horses anyway? When I had my appaloosa/Morgan cross mare, she would shun her open stall in snow and stand outside with three inches of snow on her back. I'd go out, brush her off and one day out of curiosity, ran my fingers deep in her winter coat till I hit skin. She was toasty warm and dry. That downy under coat really protects them just as down protects a chicken.

Still I wonder why they prefer standing out in the snow over being inside where it is warm and dry.

Not fun, penny1960. I tried that the other night. Went to bed early with a start of a sore throat and sinus infection. I did a sinus lavage, took a couple of Tylenol, a hand full of allergy meds and slept about 12 hours. Woke up feeling pretty good.

Maybe the flue shot I got this year is doing its job.

That would be a first.

For those who have come to grips with their kid's/others bad choices, it's good to see and hear. You are so right in that the maker said to love all and let him do the judgement. It's not right for us to judge another for their choices. A primary reason why I dislike organized religion... they are quick to judge and slow to love/accept, but they want your money either way. And the maker also said you have a direct line to him through his son... you don't "need" the church to get where we all hope to be going Justsayin

Might also depend on which organized religion. I try my best to be as devout as possible in my organized religion..which clearly teaches to not judge and love everyone.

As to predators... government totally scares me... so I would just SSS.

I do have a coyote trap, but I got that for the old foxes we have. The traps I catch the younger foxes with isn't big enough. We are very fortunate to a lovely man who traps the coyotes in on our land and I leave it to him. I trap everything else.

Perhaps there are trappers in your area who would be happy to get your coyotes. It saves time, energy and cost.

Agree. I worry about my old Appy mare so DH has taken out a round bale of straw to the pasture to the slough she likes to stand. He thought it was pretty hilarious and how she just totally dissed him and his bale and went about rolling in the snow. We give her hay every year and have left the waterer open for her. She won't drink there now will she eat any of the hay...lol.
She'll be 34 this spring. I can only wish I was as tough as she was. I'm not quite as stubborn...but close.

We can shoot coyotes Oct 1st to March 26, no bag limit, and most do more to get rid of them than the pelts. They're saying now though the harder they are hunted, more killed, more they breed to adapt... wiley critters.

I have heard that coyotes are now interbreeding with those reintroduced wolves....scary combo.

I've heard that if your rabbit population is up, your coyote population will be also. Once they hunt down the rabbit population, the pack will relocate. I've been hearing LOT'S of yote howls the last two months so the rabbit population must be reflecting that. Around here they breed in February and it isn't unusual to hear them carrying on in the timber close to our farm. Way creepy.

I have fond memories of my App, Wickedchicken6. She was born in the mid 70s and was a yearling when I bought her. She was a big lap dog in personality and temprament. And like most Apps as stubborn as the day is long. I was forced to part with her due to a move and I miss her to this day.
