Hey why do people raise goats?

Milk.

Also cheese.

Also brush control .... Yep, you are guaranteed to never have brush, or apple trees, or berry bushes ever again.

They are also very cute and extremely smart. My kids (well, some of them), greatly enjoy playing with them.

for people who want brush control goats are not the complete answer

Goats are Browsers.... they go for leafy and woody greens ..... To keep the grasses down best to get sheep.

But the best I have used were chickens......

Guaranteed they will clear the yard....

You know it's bad when your vet gives you a 'quantity' discount when you come in.

Or you have enough quantity he will waive the ranch call .....

That's funny. DH and I were watching the movie Secretariat over the weekend. Such a great movie, especially remembering seeing that magnificent thoroughbred win the triple crown in real time back in the 70s. I told my husband that my dream had always been to own a small farm that was big enough to handle 5 or 6 horses. He said that we had that now but how would I get them to the vet for care. I told him the vet would come to us. Treating 5 horses puts a sparkle in the DVM's eyes. My husband is a quick learner. He said that then what you do when he is looking over the horses is bring out the dogs and cats. Yep, then point him at the chicken coop. At that point in time he's going to be seeing so many $$$$ that he's going to be generous and forget he doesn't treat chickens.

Maybe it's time to start looking for those 5 horses, LOL!

That's why I have 36 chickens,4 dogs and 5 cats. When all is said and done all of them together eat less than my horse use to.

Ahh good, then you already know about the true cost of just one horse, let alone 5 of them.
I was about to warn you about that

unpleasant fact of keeping horses.

Wait.... there are quantity discounts? I have taken in 7 animals at a time to one vet, and then there are 6 horses and a cat at the barn that the horse vet takes care of (that cat gets his rabies from the horse vet)
