still here! hubby's outside with the snowthrower right now (such a sweety) clearing a path to the coop. Personally I would just wait til it stops snowin' and blowin' but he gets bored easy.
When I woke up this morning I opened my eyes, looked out the window and it was snowing so hard I thought it was still dark out!

Just peeked out now tho and it looks like we are in that "hole" the weatherman promised as I can actually see the coop! So far it's looking like we're good to go. Be better if the wind would lay down some but hey, we still have our power and they are now sayin' our snow should be down to flurries by midnight. Well, sounds like the DH has me trail cleared so I can't stall any longer. Better get outside and take care of the girls before round two kicks in. Takes us senior citizens a bit longer to get things done these days you know.

Boy, when I was young and foolish I never thought I would ever be wishin' to be in my 50's again!

ETA-Hi Penny! We're 10 miles from the nearest highway and major highway/expressway? Hmmm. That would take some serious travelin'!

Love being farther off I-5 do not get lookie loo's driving around and not near the noise
we are far enough to the back of town that we do not hear the highway
noise either
Same here. We are about three miles off of the nearest blacktop on a grave road that turns really nasty really fast with heavy rain or snow. It keeps the big city zombies out. The biggest problem is that nice Sunday afternoon is spring there is an increase in traffic as the town folks come out to take a drive through 'Amish' country. I love the looks on their faces when they drive by our farm and look at us outside in shorts like "You ain't Amish!"

Nope we sure ain't.

@microchick I bet they do would be priceless to see their faces

love to see that too!

No lookie loo problems here. Our property is 1/4 mile PAST the end of a dead end gravel road. Have to cross an easement to even get to us. Only "lookers" we get happen during deer season when some city fool can't get the hint when they drive thru our gate thinking they've found a shortcut or back way into the state land BEHIND our 65 acres. We've had em' even try to sneak past the house and down our back lane or they just sit at the bottom of our turnaround. Some of them will stay there until I walk out onto the porch with my 22, lean on the rail and stare at them. That usually have them puttin' it in reverse and sneakin' back where they came from.
Yes, a rifle packin' grandma can be intimidating!!! (learned my "stink eye" from the chickens)

I love it!
There's a saying that goes: Once a week sit out on your front porch and clean your rifle. Make sure and wave at everyone that passes by!

We have a creek with a bridge crossing the gravel road on our eastern boundary. I remember one night when we were awakened by a floodlight shining past our bedroom window. We hadn't owned the farm for very long and no doubt the general thought was that it was still an Amish farm. We laid in bed and watched as the occupants of a pick up truck set on the bridge and spot lighted the creek bed and timber on our property-.-probably looking for deer to poach. After a few minutes, DH proclaimed that he's seen enough, grabbed his AR went out to the front yard and stood in a spot where the spot light would shine one him. Sure enough it didn't take long before it did. The spot light instantly clicked off, the pick up truck gunned the engine and lit out like his tailpipe was on fire.

Last spot lighting event we have had to date.
