The Old Folks Home

Morning everyone

Too cold and snow blowy to do anything else today so I thought I would catch up with you all. So sorry for the wild weather some of you are experiencing this week to our south and east. A little prayer that you and all your human, furred and feathered family members are safe and sound.

All's good here. Just waiting for mother nature to decide we are finally having spring. I know, too soon for us but i can dream, can't I?

Monday is road trip day again to my oncologist. Going to find out if I am still in TFR (chemo drug free remission). Some in the trial have had to re-start treatment BUT a lot of us are still cruisin' with only the bone pain as a reminder so..................

There is also a potential bonus to this trip I haven't told the DH about yet, shhhhhhh!

We are going to the big city and to get to the hospital we go right past only one of two TSC's in the entire state that I know of. DH always stops so I can stock up on a few chicken related things (and he enjoys snooping thru the all the farm tools parts etc.). Anyway, with a little luck they should be having their Chick Days sale which means chickies!!!!

Hopefully he won't figure out what I'm up to if I only sneak the soft sided pet carrier into the car

I was just using your post in trying to convince my DH that I'm not the only one who makes the most of an excursion to involve chickens. My brother is coming down today...and if I'd have known...I would most definitely had him bring me some hatching eggs. (It's 9 hours away)

DH is having none of it, he's teasing me terribly and pointing out that...

1) I have to date...used all of his knee appointments/surgeries to buy hatching eggs
2) He feels that if he had a heart attack....I'd use it to buy more hatchings eggs
3) He feels that if he was to die...that I'd bury him close to our big city so that when I visit him I can buy...yes you know it...more hatching eggs!

Thank you for your post. (Maybe it will help me)

And your puppy's adorable!

I NEED turkeys!

He's apparently having none of that either.

Or the SLW I also need. No that's right...it's not a want...it's need. Yep...definitely a need.
I'm in negotiations with him for he tractor shed. I could have more burds then.

Baby turkeys look a lot like chicks. You probably wouldn't notice till they are towering over your chickens. Mistaken identity happens all the time. Not your fault. I haven't figured out anything for the SLW but, maybe someone in the BYC audience can.

Oh...that's so sneaky!

Drumstick Diva...I had no idea about that dark side of yours...lol!

DH is the kinda guy who knows that turkeys will be coming to the farm now that he's heard my speak of them. If he was 100% against them, I wouldn't get them. No secrets between us. He puts up with all the guineas so he's pretty awesome. I think secretly between you and me...he really likes the chickens. He just thinks that if he dare ever say he likes them that we'd end up with 10,000 chickens. He doesn't think I have a quota regulator...but I actually do.

No, they don't. I don't think you can pull that one off unless he's legally blind.

Now guineas. Guineas look a lot like chicks.

Quote: And I have guineas!!! Seriously though, my guys (and please note...I said MY guys for the men reading this because I'm aware there are some very observative men...they're just not MY men

) would most likely have thought they were really ugly chicks. If they can get away without hearing about chickens...or having to see a chicken...or a chick...or have to do anything with the chickens...they aren't going to go on their own and inspect any chicks I have, trust me.
gig.gif
Maybe, just maybe...I talk about chickens too much.

Naw...not possible is it? I bring THE CHICKEN LOVE TO EVERYONE!!!!

(Oh yes I went there)

Now mine can even identify various species of eggs IN THE INCUBATOR as well as pretty much any major breeds in the brooder. He's also pretty darn good at identifying adult chicken breeds, as well. When we watch a movie he makes sure to point out the chicken breeds.
There has never been a turken in a movie.
I think that needs to change.

Okay. I have 11 chicks that are between one and 2 days old now..............and our youngest Welsummer hen went broody on me. Full force. This girl has a broody shriek that will shatter glass and the classic broody trance.

Welsummers are not supposed to be broody hens.

I have no idea what she is sitting on other than ceramic eggs, but I don't want to hatch out any standard sized chickens this year. Guess it's go visit the Amish neighbor down the road and buy some more Bantam eggs.

Okay guys, I can literally hear you all laughing.......STOP IT!
