The Old Folks Home

I love homemade soup... but I wouldn't go with clam chowder... uhm...a creamy wild mushroom and garlic, or French onion, or a lobster bisque. :drool

With you on the bread...topped with butter. I am addicted to butter.

Pork rinds huh? Love them...but I don't think of them as comfort food.

Try cream of asparagus with Salmon poached in the soup.... and Sour Dough bread The crustier and sourer the better. If you dont like salmon Shrimp or Scallops works too....

Sounds good, especially with fresh Salmon.

As to drinks...right now I am on a Tequila Sunrise kick. :D fruity vitamins.

Just finished cleaning up the washer and dryer. -barf- always amazes me that we haven't ever had a lint trap fire. ....I really need to clean it out more often (and I tell myself that EVERY SINGLE TIME)

Not sure how to get all of the lint slime out of the tiny drain holes in the front loader washer. did the best I could.

Some %^&$# pulled that on a friend of mine once. It was easier to do, and undo back then, and to back trace. I was still working in R&D at the time so I called in a favor and we sent the scum a little "gift". Guarantee they never pulled that on someone else, at least not from that machine. ;) One of the many reasons my machines are always buttoned down tighter than Fort Knox. Did you know even Mark Zuckerberg keeps tape over his laptop camera and USB port? No such thing as total security these days, sigh.
Hope you get a good whiz kid to clean things up for you.

Thats got to be metallic tape right?

Ok I did some digging. Tape over the USB is unnecessary. People who were asking about it got similar answers. the consensus was There was no way to protect the port because it has to be used physically. with a Cable or plug in device. Even if it were filled with inert glue someone could still crack open the case and access it internally.

But Zuckerberg does tape over his web cam.

And there IS comment by the FBI.

Well, just when I thought things were settling down....silly me, I saw momma Sparkle become unbroody right before my eyes. I caught her tossing poor little Lucky across their little pen and when the poor baby ran back up to her, she pecked at it and went back to preening her feathers. THAT was the last straw. Poor baby was sitting in a corner confused so I just reached in and took it out of danger, Told Sparkle that she was officially finished with being broody and after taking baby and putting it under a heat lamp in a box, deposited momma back in the bantam pen and told Oliver she was all his. Of course she tried that fluff up dancing don't touch me I'm broody dance and I told her it wasn't getting her anywhere. She was through. Luckily Orscheln's still has chicks and were down to two bantams. I told them I didn't care what color, breed or sex they were, I needed them, mark them sold and I'd be right there. DH said I must have been going about 80 on the interstate. Nope, 65 all the way to Kirksville and back with two little 2-3 week old OEGB pullets in their travel box beside me. I could hear Lucky crying the minute I walked in the door.

I was a bit nervous about putting poor little lucky in with two older chicks, No problem. They are buds already and I just saw one of the little pullets give Lucky a piece of egg to eat,

My last egg was DOA. I eggtopsied it and it looks like it was a victim of whatever happened between the two hens yesterday. It had internally pipped and was in position to externally pip but it looks like there was a bit of unabsorbed yolk sack that ruptured, probably in the 'chick fight.

Needless to say I'm pretty disappointed in the OEGB mature pullets at the moment. DH said he was amazed they both didn't wind up in the soup pot after the fiasco this hatching turned into because of them.

Oh well, can't blame chickens for acting like chickens.

I do have my camera lenses covered but I'm curious about the USB port covered.

So sorry about the whole broody/hatching fiasco but glad you were able to find Lucky a new family. I know what you mean about chickens being chickens. More than once I've had the urge to send someone off to freezer camp but then I stop and remind myself that these beautiful beings are just living by the behavior codes given them by the Creator and are not human so cannot be expected to behave as such. I know better and have always prided myself in treating my animals like animals (tho very spoiled animals) and even at times admonishing those that would treat them with the unrealistic expectation that they behave like human children but sometimes my "mom heart" tries to overrule my very logical head. Fortunately common sense resurfaces quickly and no one winds up being the guest at (aka on) the dinner table.

Thank you for clarifying Deb!!! I must have had an oldtimers moment and remembered things incorrectly.

Glad Sparkle has a family now.

USB ports are covered so someone can't slip one in, and either put a program on your computer, copy point of entry codes, passwords, etc. personal information, and the like, so they can gain access to your computer, and identity.

Thank you!!! That must have been what they meant and I wasn't paying close enough attention.

Thats ok its just a reminder that we arent as secure as we need to be... Thank goodness there are no webcams or speakers or Wifi in this family.

Though I believe we need to bite the WiFi bullet because Cell phones dont work here.... Dead zone Because of over head power lines.... Big Azz ones.
