The Old Folks Home

You guys are making my mouth hurt. Waaaaay too early in the morning to contemplate gaping holes in your jawbone that used to contain teeth.

I think I lost my wisdom teeth when I was 22. No problem but I had to spend the night in the hospital back then. Probably wouldn't have to now.

What's interesting about my teeth is that about 15 years ago I developed a rare condition known as Familiar Internal Resorption. Simply put, my body considers my teeth to be foreign objects and my immune system attacks them, destroying the nerves and causing inflammation in the tooth that fuses it to the bone surrounding it. The problem then is that the condition is completely painless until the tooth abcesses. I've lost a lot of teeth to it already but the worse was when I lost 4 teeth at once and they had to take out the front of my jaw to get the teeth out. At the time I was diagnosed I asked the doctor about the disease and he told me I was only the second person at the time to be diagnosed with it. The first guy was a part of a study concerning the disease, but eventually lost all of his teeth due to the expense of having to have root canals on all of his teeth. Oh.....joy. It hasn't reared it's ugly head in 15 years, which is good but man, I miss those teeth and totallly hate the partial and bridge that I have.

SGC, just be glad that tureky cannot hold an AR-15 or you would be dead meat.

Agenda for today. Harvest more wood and continue to contemplate projects.

I did manage to get a section of the barn cleaned up yesterday which wasn't on my list and I didn't have to set up the broody buster for Sparkle as she seems to be breaking herself and returning to being a sweet little bird.

Garden is mostly hoed and actually starting to recover from it's slow start. I wound up planting popcorn in the gaps where sweetcorn didn't come up and it is sprouting. I figured that it would be germinating at a different time than the sweet corn and wouldn't be a problem.

So now there is a new project. collect bean poles for the pole beans and getting fence up for the cucumbers to crawl on.

In the meantime, more coffee please.:caf

So I was in the coop... minding my own business...

Scratch that...

I was in the coop, collecting eggs and putting Miss Piggy to bed, and I spotted the perpetually broody turkey had, at some point today, moved to her auxiliary nest - the clean one. I thought to myself, hey SCG, you should get those fresh eggs out from under her and maybe clean her primary nest out since she's not on it. I turned the light off and got in there a few times to get all the eggs out. I am wearing a jacket, and with each grab she bites the jacket, flailing about, but I'm winning this battle, you see. I get all the eggs, and she only kills the jacket. At this point I think I'm smarter than a turkey. More agile, more fluid, more... winning.

So I get all the eggs out from under her and I think to myself, hey SCG she's been broody a while, the poor thing is half starved, you should get her off that nest and onto a roost.

These kind of thoughts will kill a person.

Ignore them if you ever have them.

So I get my hand in there, again, and I'm trying to push the turkey out of the nest. She's steadfast. Then I grab one of her legs, bend it and try to grab the other in an effort to get her out of the nest box without her Nest Box Club(TM) legs at work. This is where I swear the bowels of hell opened up in that nesting box and out came Devil-Turkey. She came flying out of the next box at the speed and frequency of the tazmanian devil, coming after my face. I fly back from the nest boxes, to the furthest corner of the coop, thankful at this point that I will not be undergoing a face transplant anytime soon. I decide that I'm no longer full of winning, and that the turkey can hatch any egg she wants to at this point. I think it's over. Oh, it's not. She's going to pay me a lesson now that I'm cornered. She's out of the box, all puffed up and seriously ticked off, and comes after me, ninja-like, with all her pointy ends out trying to disembowel me. I swear I saw some of her moves in a Jackie Chan...

Anyway, I let out some pretty primordial screams, certain that death was upon me.

After going 2 rounds with the Devil, she gave up to go back to her nest, leaving me with only 2 visible bite marks, in my right elbow.

My garden is loving all this rain we are getting. My plants are loaded with baby squash, cucumbers and tomatoes. The cantaloupe and watermelon are full of blooms.
Everything is blooming 5-31-17.jpg

Strawberries were looking pretty sad so I added some rabbit pellets and moved them under the pear tree so they would get morning shade and they love it. Lot's more berries and blooms.

Lovely, chicka. Our little garden didn't do much. I know the seeds we planted were old, and it's been way too dry here, so no go with the garden.

OOOOOH, so pretty and I am so jealous!!! my beans are just up and I just put in my tomato plants. Good thing the rest is still sitting in the sun shed. I was going to put my squash and peppers out today but just saw the weather report and we should be getting frost tonight :thNot a huge surprise but I thought we were going to get a break from the "Memorial week frost" this year. My birthday is Saturday and just about every year mother nature gives me a birthday present either just before or just after my birthday. At least this year it doesn't look like we'll freeze, sigh.

Early Happy Birthday wishes, Chicki!!

...cuz I'll forget before Saturday and miss it if I don't post now :old

Ron, you kept your baby teeth, but I've never had wisdom teeth. I get it from my dad's side of the family, and I'm at least the 4th. generation to never have had them. Funny how things like that work.
I've never gotten my wisdom teeth either! :highfive:
I'm ok that I'm "not wise." gig.gif I much prefer it!

Oh my gosh Micro...that sounds awful to have to go through! :hugs

Funny story, since you mentioned your partial bridge: I worked with a couple of terrific ladies in my section at the hog barn; hardworking and incredibly funny and crazy. They were 10-15 years older than I was at the time, so 35-45. We were working with the young feeder pigs 35-50lbs. I don't know what we were chatting about but she said something or was laughing and out of the corner of my eye...something flew into the pen of pigs. Well, pigs at that age are fast, but she was faster and she grabbed it in a flash. It was her false teeth! :lau She had a partial plate or bridge and I guess it didn't fit as tightly as it should. She took them down to the maintenance room and cleaned them off... gig.gif We laughed about that for years!
