The Old Folks Home

I've never raised turkeys, but can't you break their broodiness similar to the way you would with a chicken?

Yes but in this case the hen is way to aggressive.

With the ones I had I used long sticks to herd mine like they used to do in the old days. And my turkey responded well to the herding. If a young turkey bit me I popped it and they never tried it again. I never hurt them but I showed them they could not act that way. Just like correcting a puppy or a 2 year old. lol You pop their butt or hand a bit.
But that was me. Everyone does things their way.

latest effort... a practice piece

Deb that is beautiful! I love the colors in that stone what ever it's called.

I've been wanting to get my two daughters something unique and euphonious but couldn't couldn't find anything that made me think "uhuh". But seeing all the items you've been showing on here it's really put ideas in my mind of what to search for.

I only had poultry for a short time. But I did quite research for a year before I bought any poultry. I was very interested in turkey long before I bought any and I enjoyed them immensely. I had 3 Buff Orpington hens that would go broody every year one at a time. They were wonderful momma's and I had another hen that hatched chicks and she abandoned hers pretty early. But so much of what I read stated the same thing that breeders had bred the broodiness out of nearly all the breeds. I guess Silkies are the exception. I did not want any of them due to the fact they would have been mud balls around here. lol None of my turkey were able to hatch any eggs. I hatched a bunch and most I had hand tamed before they went to new homes. The new people were amazed they knew commands already. hahaa I guess I treated mine like puppies. lol
Much of what I read up on turkey was written by Mr. Frank Reese love the fact he truly enjoy's raising them.
The TSC 'silkies' I had never went broody. Just let a TSC silkie/giant cross set on eggs, hoping for some more fm naked necks. She went broody all winter, figured I'd try her out and leave eggs, see if she went broody again, yup, ... hatched one....and looks like it's from pure NN hen that was laying eggs with her. I'll try her again sometime and see what happens.
My dad's best broody when I was a kid was a Japanese bantam, hatched out turkey eggs once Lol!!

Deb actually sells some of her stuff. :D

I know it's not nice but, I would use turkey for the only thing she is good for. I would put her outside nest and all where you need predator protection. She is so rabid I truly think she could chase anything away.

You know I am seriously worried about the chicks with her(if she doesn't kill them off) how will you get them away from her? You don't want to have her train them to be assassins.
