The Old Folks Home

The ducks are out in the coop...whew! They grow really fast! They've caught up to the size of the EE chick they're in with. I've took the baby gates away so the entire area is opened up for the ducks and the chicks with them. The silly young guineas were bad for flying in there anyway so I thought it'd be better to take hazards away.

The Silky mom that raised the guinea chick promply laid 12 eggs and is probably close to the third week of setting. She is a chick manufacturer. It's so sweet now that she's on the nest 24/7 that her guinea keet still roosts with Mr. Peek Frean, the adoptive dad... and he still tidbits for the keet. Awwwwww! He's been so good with all the chicks and keets.

I had two pairs of guineas go missing. They've been missing for two+ weeks now. The funny thing is no chickens (they'd be slower and an easier catch) have went missing and the 8 guineas have stayed static. We were going to go all out and string up the fence until I realized it was two pairs. Has anyone had their female guinea go broody? Does the male stay with her?

It's so hilarious when I see them in the yard...and they're paired up. The male eventually lays down waiting while the female goes about eating. It reminds me of couples shopping. She's shopping or trying on clothes and he's waiting there on the bench. :lau

Fine looking young man, Alaskan. Surely can't look like his Papa. :)

Poor boy has a bunch of my faults....But I think he is still making a good go of it. ;) way better than I did at that age. ;)

oh My gawd hes a hunk..... Congrats on the graduation...

Thanks.... hard for me to see it, so good to hear.

Al, son is definitely going to be fought over by the ladies.

Is this the one going into seminary?

Good to hear.... maybe :lau

And yep, he still wants to be a married priest, . ...but we are Orthodox, so that works for us.

I was kinda wondering if he would ogle any of the girls. .. being in a brand new town, all summer, on his own.

But, from what I understand, nope. He is still completely single.

Alaskan, that boy LOOKS like an Alaskan. What a handsome young man. You must be very proud of him

Yeah, he is VERY Alaskan. Which I like. He doesn't kill anything though...but he is happy to do all the rest of it.

And he is an ox...slow but steady. That boy can work for hours chopping wood without stopping.

X2! Yes...hopefully they are easy on him.:D

I hope so! I think he is still running from them....

Momma Speckles had kicked all the eggs out of the nest and was hunkered down with her chicks. I was pretty impressed with those 3 week old babies flying up 4 feet with their momma. We got everybody back where they belonged and called it a night.
Fun story!

I love good broodies!

Good luck on getting the house wrapped.

We had to haul hay today, before running to Anchorage for medical stuff.

Eldest son is not yet home, so we had to haul the hay FAST so we could get driving. ..with only the youngest 4 kids.

Gotta say, kid 2 and 3 have FINALLY bulked up. They didn't toss the bales like marshmallows, but they are now almost stronger than their dad!!!

Their stamina is not as good as kid #1, but their stamina is now better than mine.

Pant, pant.

After getting 50 bales on the flat bed, with the boys helping, we got all the bales up in that loft and stacked (12 feet up, so the last row has to be tossed and caught), in less than 20 minutes.
:ya

I am curious... Why store hay in a loft? except that you can toss hay down to feed. :pop
Best place for it...on the ground it would wick up moisture (I live in a wet climate ), and up in the loft almost zero animals. ...No moose, or rabbits, OR the monster goats getting Into the hay.

Also, entire bottom floor of our dirt floor "garage" and dirt floor barn are oh so very full of all kinds of stuff. No other place is left...

Yep...we're crazy too putting it all in the loft...for exactly the same reasons. gig.gif
We do have pooping pigeons.
