The Old Folks Home

Cynthia12, where did you find that tool that you used for your hen's bumblefoot and how does it work? I have a couple of hens with swollen large pads and what looks like early bumbles. Sure would make life easier.

It's been a long week here. We started putting up the new siding on the back of the house. My bach hurts. Heck, my front hurts. EVERYTHING hurts. We were hoping to get the siding up in two days. HA! Maybe if we were 35 again. We got 3X48 feet up today. A drop in the bucket considering the wall we are working on is 9X88 feet.

I did manage to catch one raccoon. Got a picture of the little corn stealing slime ball before I capped him with a .223. I need to set the trap again and see if he had any accomplices. One less raccoon in the world is a good thing IMHO. This one is vacationing in the lower
40 where I saw three vultures circling for a landing and a meal with raccoon as the main course.

Found out that our marauding fox is a female who raised two kits under the cabin across the road from us. Spreading the news that the DOC has given their blessing to take them out.

It's been a pretty tough week for us. We have a marvelous 9 year old Australian Cattle Dog who owns us completely. He has been a constant companion to my husband and myself, going for trail rides in the woods with him when DH is out on his dirt bike, going for walks with us, just always up to having fun. He has always been a character, just a happy fun loving dog who never has known a stranger. None better than our Dingo. Lately he has been having trouble with what we thought was his back and what the vet thought is his hips. We had him on Remadyl for almost 2 months and then aspirin. Nothing seemed to work or help him and his hind quarters seems to be getting more unstable for him. He has gone from an energetic dynamo to a couch potato. A few days ago I set down and started typing in his symptoms looking for a lead as to what is going on with him and what popped up broke our hearts. It looks like he has Degeneraive Myelopathy. The gene that causes the defect, SOD1 has been found in ACDs. The symptoms all match up. We aren't ready to say good bye to our boy yet. I bought him traction boots for his hind legs and we have laid down throw rugs for him to walk on. We are planning to make a doggy wheel chair for him. He has always been there for us and now we are going to be here for him. It's been really tough though, coming so close to loosing Bunny right before Christmas last year and the chickens dropping over from Marek's disease.

I'm going to have to go back and catch up. Hope everyone is hanging in there and having a good weekend.

I really do prefer the 6ml

I got good at drawing blood, the other nurses would ask me to try if they couldn't find anything. Amazingly, it always works if you visualize sucess and are in the zone. Almost like you can see under the skin with your fingertips. I know, i am weird. Hate when they use my hands to get veins. My veins are pretty easy to find, so i am lucky there. I used to give blood frequently and they use an 18 gauge needle.

naw butterfly for me my veins were destroyed when I had cancer in 84 they ended up using the back of my toes had blown out the rest... mine are tiny they float friends faint when they go with.. new DR said it was time for my blood work set it the next morning there she tried 4 times blew one vein up let it rest over the weekend go back like tuesday
