The Old Folks Home

We don't home school, no way could we handle it, sending the kids to school is our break
Guy I work with though is part of a large group of parents that homeschool. They do it as a group, share the burden, take turns.
IMHO homeschooled kids get a better education in many cases.
Our public schools have to use state mandated 'common core' now. Much of it is ridiculous, 2+2 does not equal four anymore...

I just remembered being in Nurse's Training and our teacher instructing us about of all things, enemas. We were trying to keep a straight face but lost it when she started lecturing us on the types of enemas a doctor might order and got to honey, and then coffee.

Seriously? I mean, 42 years later and I'm still shaking my head at the very idea. What a waste of perfectly good coffee!

I'd much rather soak in it.....like a milk bath.

We once had a mother come in to my husband's office to have the eyes of her 7 year old boy tested. She was about the most unqualified home teacher that I've ever seen, but yep, she was home schooling her son. I remember my husband coming out to my office after he had tested the boy and shaking his head. Seems as though this 7 year old boy, being home schooled, didn't know his alphabet nor numbers and mother said he was being home schooled because he was 'gifted'. Huh? He wound up calling the school district superintendent and had him check into the situation.

Sometimes I really get scared for kids.

Morning everyone :caf
I'm rising but far from shining this morning! Seven hours of slapping paint on all the new "stuff" we had built for the coop, interrupted only by working on adjustments and patches or installing the new latches, hauling away left over concrete blocks, etc. in the heat and humidity really sapped my energy. Oh, and my nose is so burnt I look like Santa's lead reindeer. The dear DH is so considerate. When I came to bed he told me I had to put my head under the covers because the glow from my nose was keeping him awake :smack.
At least all the construction is finally done, at least on this project, so now I have to paint like mad (yes, the painting is my job)all the stuff that didn't get painted earlier because of all the rain and construction projects before the weather turns too cold. At least the rest of the week is supposed to drop back into the 60's. Still warm but a great deal more comfortable, whew.
So u think 60 is warm?:lau

My DIL is home schooling my grandkids. I hate it. The 7 year old is "almost" reading! Heck, most kids read at 5. She thinks she's great at it. Too lazy to get up in the morning and send them to school. Nothing i can say will persuade them to send those kids to school.

I'll pass, merci beaucoup.
It is really beautiful there. Nice place to visit but glad i don't live there. My family used to visit Daytona for Easter vacation every year. We rode the train down from New York. Back then it was a quiet place, not full of millions of college kids like now. Love the smell of salt air.

I really doubt my grandson has special needs, but you never know. I just think that teaching is not her priority. I know her house is a major disaster area and i don't like going there. I am not a clean freak, but they let the kids eat where ever they want and food and drink all ends up ground into the carpet. Gross. She is a stay at home mom, my son works 50-60 hours a week with 2 jobs. Yet when he gets home, she wants him to wait on her and do chores. Ugh. He always looks like he is about to fall asleep.
