The Old Folks Home

Came inside to get some much needed rest and calories. Finished pulling up the last 2 flower gardens and I'm about halfway done the veggie gardens. In the front most are raised beds/bags and I haul the dirt out of them, back up the hill and into the chicken run to plug bunkers each fall. So far it's about a yard and a half of dirt and I'm bushed and everything hurts.

While I was working hard the chickens discovered my pumpkins and decided to carve one. I think I might be giving them more credit than is due, but it sure looks like a right profile of Miss Piggy to me.

Edited to add: Miss Piggy is my showgirl.

Oh, that is too funny.

There is a farm a short distance away from us on the main highway that grew pumpkins. They must have a gillion pumpkins in their front yard right now. I need to get there before Halloween and stock up for the chooks. I figure that on Halloween day or the day after I should be able to get them dirt cheap.

Sometimes you just gotta stop and smell the roses.

When I let the bantams out this morning the birds from the Feb and June hatches ran outside like they usually do, ran one lap around the run and when the 30 mph wind gusts hit them with a 26 degree wind chill they headed back inside. Their whole body language was 'crap crap crap what happened to warm!?'

Frankly I was wonering the same thing myself this morning, LOL.

I love it when we can read their minds
