The Old Folks Home

Ron, sorry you lost your bird. I know it happens, but it's still not pleasant. Got my spring lid jar washed. Egad, I have to find my bread pans. I've got about 10 totes I need to unpack, and deal with. A couple are winter clothes, which I have not really needed, 1 has more shoes, and purses, 2 are blankets, and about 4 of them have kitchen stuff I was not using regularly. Of the 4 - 5 totes with kitchen things, at least 2 are Tupperware items.

A cookie sheet and some parchment paper works for round loaves. Make sure to add enough flour to make a ball that holds shape. Flour in recipes is often a guide for bread making

Mine is December 28, 1956. It really stinks having a birthday halfway between Christmas and New Years. Everyone is broke by then.
Aaaah! It is November now!
Well, time to sleep. Must get up early to go to town with husband. Good night, chat folk!

understand about bad birthdays my Brother is 18 month older December 23 58.. Ma was 1 2 39

We did Halloween a bit differently. The kids agreed they would be just as happy coming to eat supper at gramdma's house, with the whole family playing Mario Party after supper. I had gotten cupcakes, so that was a nice surprise for everyone. We had a great time. The kids didn't want to leave, and wanted to spend the night, but there's school tomorrow, so they will have to wait. When it was time for them to leave, I had a goodie bag, with candy for them.

Tomorrow morning, I babysit, but tomorrow afternoon, I will go through all the totes to find the spring lid jar I want to use to reconstitute the starter than Ron sent me. Again, thank you Ron.

I have a 1 gallon glass jug that was spare drilled whole in the lid as it screws down

I am 56 but feel 66 some days.
I guess old uncle Arthur does that to some of us.
I can't get up off the floor without something or dh to help.

I figure I was not going grow old and it surprised me

Apparently chickens are not as bad as sheep or goats, but my motto has been that chickens just die! They can find the oddest ways too die too.

I found a dead hen this week--looked like she broke her neck somehow. She had not signs of illness

I had totally missed this I am sorry

You guys still in your 50s. Man to be in my 50s again.

Had the tests for RA, came back negative although the doctor said I have the symptoms so false negatives are possible and mine may be a rheumatic type of arthralgia that doesn't titer out because it is atypical. Always have joint pain. Getting out of bed in the AM a real trip. Joints getting enlarged. Really it is nothing new, just more obvious and persistent as I get older.

No trick or treaters here. Kind of miss that. Always fun to see the little ones and joke around with the older ones. Friends who live in IL are retired dentist and his wife. They give out tooth brushes. It's a wonder they don't get egged:lau

@superchemicalgirl, that just sux. So hard to do without water. You can survive without power especially if you heat with wood but that water is a game changer. We have thought about getting some of those big water bladders, you know the type you put in your bathtub and fill. There is an old well back in our timber. Never did figure out what it was doing back there. It was mostly filled with sediment so we filled it in with scrap debris. Wish there was some way we could have restored it without it being a lot of $$$$$$$$$$.

@ronott1 my starter is ALIVE ALIVE I SAY! Bwaaaaahaaaaahaaaa haaa haaaa! I was so surprised to wake up this morning and discover that it had bubbled half way up the jar overnight. Going to wait till this evening and feed it again. Do I need to remove half of it now or wait till tomorrow when I have more volume?

Today is a good day! Nobody died overnight but I need to pull cockerels out of the main pen as they are just over the top with the young pullets and acting like a bunch of hungry piranhas with them. It's so hard to decide when dealing with Marek's. Don't want to put the ocular marek's birds in with healthy birds showing no symptoms, can put the standard roosters with the bantams because the bantam boys beat the snot out of them. Can't put this rooster in with them because he hates everyone and they hate him. This one can't go in with the bantams because he's too big and will kill the smaller hens.:barnie Even DH says I need to pull some roosters for awhile as they are acting over the top again and not letting the girls come outside without jumping their bones.

I either need another coop or less chickens.....nah, DH would never fall for it.

Great info Ron. I didn't think about round loaves.
Like these!
