The Old Folks Home

You guys still in your 50s. Man to be in my 50s again.

Had the tests for RA, came back negative although the doctor said I have the symptoms so false negatives are possible and mine may be a rheumatic type of arthralgia that doesn't titer out because it is atypical. Always have joint pain. Getting out of bed in the AM a real trip. Joints getting enlarged. Really it is nothing new, just more obvious and persistent as I get older.

No trick or treaters here. Kind of miss that. Always fun to see the little ones and joke around with the older ones. Friends who live in IL are retired dentist and his wife. They give out tooth brushes. It's a wonder they don't get egged:lau

@superchemicalgirl, that just sux. So hard to do without water. You can survive without power especially if you heat with wood but that water is a game changer. We have thought about getting some of those big water bladders, you know the type you put in your bathtub and fill. There is an old well back in our timber. Never did figure out what it was doing back there. It was mostly filled with sediment so we filled it in with scrap debris. Wish there was some way we could have restored it without it being a lot of $$$$$$$$$$.

@ronott1 my starter is ALIVE ALIVE I SAY! Bwaaaaahaaaaahaaaa haaa haaaa! I was so surprised to wake up this morning and discover that it had bubbled half way up the jar overnight. Going to wait till this evening and feed it again. Do I need to remove half of it now or wait till tomorrow when I have more volume?

Today is a good day! Nobody died overnight but I need to pull cockerels out of the main pen as they are just over the top with the young pullets and acting like a bunch of hungry piranhas with them. It's so hard to decide when dealing with Marek's. Don't want to put the ocular marek's birds in with healthy birds showing no symptoms, can put the standard roosters with the bantams because the bantam boys beat the snot out of them. Can't put this rooster in with them because he hates everyone and they hate him. This one can't go in with the bantams because he's too big and will kill the smaller hens.:barnie Even DH says I need to pull some roosters for awhile as they are acting over the top again and not letting the girls come outside without jumping their bones.

I either need another coop or less chickens.....nah, DH would never fall for it.
It is a good day when no one dies over night!

Today you can add half a cup and when it bubbles, remove enough to make the sourdough biscuits. Replenish after that with 1cup of flour and 2\3Cups water.

If it is all bubbly again in the morning you can pop it into the fridge. I take the jar our about an hour before I make the overnight sponge and then after using the amount needed for the recipe, replenish.

This is the Biscuit recipe--It is in the brochure that I sent by message to you

Sourdough BISCUITS
1 tb Active Dry Yeast 1 c Sourdough starter
1 1/4 c Water-Lukewarm 5 c Bread flour
1/3 c Sugar Melted butter or Margarine
3/4 ts Salt

If you desire dissolve the yeast in warm water with a little sugar till bubbly. Sourdough is a yeast but rises
faster with added commercial yeast. In a large mixing bowl add sugar, salt, sourdough starter, yeast and
flour. Cover; set in warm spot and let rise until double. Punch down and turn out onto floured work
surface. Roll out to 3/4 inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. Dip both sides in butter or oil, and place on
well-greased baking sheet. Let rise 15 min. Bake at 425 - 20 min. or until golden brown.

Talking about wells, I got lucky, the land I bought, the well is only 25 feet deep but it ran for about a month solid and didn't dry up... Of course, it was probably just soaking back into the ground and recycling the same water over and over... There is also a spring that we are going to rout into a bath tub for watering the horses and then the overflow from the tub will go down to the pond.

I have read about shallow wells. Is there a creek near you? Here the aquafirs run towards the River so the water move in that direction. Water that soaks into the ground would move to a well further towards the river. For me, that is from West to east

There is a creek on the next property over, not super close and a good ways downhill, but it's not FAR either. I own the top of the hill and he owns the bottom. The well is uphill from the house (where the water was running) but there is a spring right beside the house, so I'm betting that it's the same water in the spring and well.
There are elm trees growing at the spring that are pulling so much water that we cut a branch about 4 inches across and water shot out about 3 feet for a few seconds before the pressure dropped, but it was still tricking out for over an hour... not just dripping either...

So sorry about the arthritis. I have some swollen joints and a crooked finger. Lots of regular aches and pains. I try to ignore it as much as possible but i am really regretting not getting a bath tub installed here to soak in.
Get hubby to build a hoop coop. Fast, less expensive, and a fast build. 20171031_171350.jpg
Took me two weeks, about 5-6 hours a day. With lots of breaks. I could probably do it faster now that i know how.

It is an artesian well?

Your place sounds very nice!

I have this type on the top of my right foot:

arthritis on foot.jpg
It makes shoes a bit tight and hurts sometimes but not too badly...I still have nerve damage from a crushed sciatic nerve so the foot is a bit numb
