Morning all. @superchemicalgirl. I am so sorry to hear that you are still having furnace problems. I agree with @chickadoodles. Stop payment on your check, demand a discount the return visit. They charge an arm and a leg anyway so if they don't do the job right the first time, they shouldn't be charging you full price for a second call.

I've been reading up on how to start various plants from cuttings to propagate indoors!

I do rooting every fall on all the herbs from my garden that are "supposed" to be perennials but don't survive our winters this far north. You reminded me that I already have a couple sage slips that are ready to be put into pots.

Crispy 17o F here right now (a bit chillier when I got up). Supposed to get colder the rest of the week, they're talking new record lows for this time of year. (here come the -0 nights, whoopee). Hope we get enough sunshine to warm up the greenhouse for the girls today.

SCG - I hope you get your furnace fixed before this cold snap gets to you!!!

I have to run my oil heater in the coop because I am taking mercy on my poor "old lady" BA, Miss Pepper who decided to go into an explosive molt

Poor girl every time she stops somewhere she leaves a huge pile of feathers behind. I can literally scoop up handfuls of feathers without touching the woodchips under where she roosts. Poor girl. At least it is supposed to warm back up next week, in the meantime she is getting Rooster Booster and lots of extra protein.

I have a BO hen like that. Poor little girl went into a molt last year right after her last brood hatched and I'm suspecting because she is one of my OMDV hens, never grew her feathers back in. She has been bald on her back, wings and belly since June of last year and FINALLY she is starting to grow in feathers. She looks like one of these pictures where they are showing a "BAD" molt. All of her feathers are growing in at once and she has that delightful 'porcupine look about her.

Every time I look at her I think to myself that poor girl needs a sweater.

Our weather has been typical for this time of year. I think they are calling for a low at 22 one night this week and a chance of snow showers but then temps in the 40s. Rifle season for deer is still calling for rain on opening day. I'm sure die hard hunters are going to be out there sitting in tree blinds and stands or sitting on the ground just waiting for a deer to venture out, which they probably won't given it's raining and they are smarter than the hunters sitting out in the rain.

We are having great weather. The chickens are loving it. Not too hot, and it cools down at night.

And it's fairly successful? The office's big old windows have a fantastic ledge to hold a bunch of plants/cuttings/starter seed pots.
