777 posts behind.... I am only posting on the pond these days.... Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas...

But I just got my last preop test appointments approved. so I am good to go unless something pops up in the tests.

No more waiting.

I will get back onboard once all the dust settles after surgery.

DH and I were just laughing at that picture. I took one of him at the same time. He has a quilted vest and a long sleeved shirt on and was comfortable. I had on about 4 layers and looked like Nanook of the North.

Thank you , Penny, indeed I am! I'm wearing the coat in that picture that I was wearing the other day when I scared the bejeebers out of the bantams. We bought them on line from an Army surplus store. Actually they are Czech Army Surplus coats and weigh about 10 pounds with all the linings and hoods in place. Warm? You bet. But they make first class farm coats.

I was looking ahead at the forecast for the area and they are calling for snow off and on for the next 2 weeks. Along with continued cold.

I worry about our neighbors. They have only a Prairie Princess wood cook stove that they are using to heat the downstairs of their house. They are from North Dakota and used to harsh winters but the Amish around here are noted for under-insulating their houses and theirs is no exception as they are discovering. We have had mild winters as of late but this year things are back to reality. I saw a news story today that central MO is experiencing one of the coldest winters in recent history. We are just slightly north of the central part of the state and I can attest to that. We have cold spells for two or three days but this is the longest spell of arctic cold that we have had in the ten year that we have been landowners in the state.

I'm realistic enough to know that spring is three months away but I'm praying just for a break in the cold.

@penny1960 I have a doggie question for you. Our cattle dog with DM is developing full thickness hot spots on his paralyzed foot from scooting around on it inside. One on each side of his foot in line with the large pad. I've been padding them with telfa pads, Triple Antibiotic ointment then wrapping with vet wrap and finally sports foam bandage to pad it out. He has been wearing an all terrain type of doggie boots on that foot. They type they have the sled dogs wearing. I've checked the inside of the boot and no rough areas or offsets inside the boot. In fact it is felt lined and very warm. I've been doing this for a week, changing the dressing every 36 hours and while I'm noticing some granulation, they are still quite sore looking. I'd love to leave them open to air but he won't leave them alone.

Any ideas on how I could pad these areas out better so he isn't putting pressure on them all the time? He moves around and changes position on his own but I think the damage is happening because he keeps this foot and leg tucked under him as he scoots around from one spot to another on his own.

I know you have a lot of experience with showing and handling dogs and maybe I could pick your brain for ideas.
