I was there in Oakland during that big earthquake in 1989. Parked in front of a 3-story brick chimney in my Hyundai. I thought a bomb had gone off. My car bucked and the chimney swayed. When it was all done there was a huge crack in the driveway cement under my car. Not wanting my epitaph to be that I died crushed in a cheap car in Oakland, we went househunting and bought property up in the Sierra Foothills (Newcastle/Ophir/Auburn area) that following weekend.
Called my sister in Santa Cruz. The earthquake woke her up at o'dark early this morning and she couldn't get back to sleep. It was a very long day for her today.
