The Old Folks Home

I just came in from doing some coop and run clean up and much to my surprise saw a cock robin in the back yard. I did a double take, then a triple take and sure enough, it was a robin. We have a few that winter over here and it may be one of them but if I see them they are usually in the timber. This one was up near the house and carrying on as if he was declaring territory, I can only hope that it's a good sign that the worst of the winter is over but as it's just the end-ish of January common sense tells me different.

It's March-like out there for us, too. We went to Hobbitland today which is a series of trails, and was actually able to walk most of them. Some spots were a bit icy, but the rest had a nice layer of packed down snow to walk on. Can't usually walk that trail here in January. Dog had a great time, hoping she'll settle down and sleep for a few hours but it doesn't appear that we're that lucky.

great photos!

As for the German desserts, there are numerous varieties of cookies and pastries as well as cakes and "pies"... Strudels, and breakfast rolls, lots of fruit type desserts with cherries and apples predominating... Virtually every authentic one that I've ever tasted has NOT been sweet by American standards. That's NOT to say that they haven't been tasty/good, just not all that sweet. The French and Italians have a much larger affinity for sweets and sugar. Just my experience.
German chocolate!!! I LOVE German Chocolate!!! :drool
Of course it's not sweet like american sugar and wax chocolate. You can actually taste the chocolate parts and they are yummy!
