PS Diva I went to go see Jumangi last night, have you seen it? We took the kids to give grammy a break (and to thank her for coming over every day and letting our dog out and getting stuck in our driveway). I was in pure hell for the first 20 minutes, but then the kids went away and the adults came out and it improved.

Is there community transportation in your area? That way it'll be safer for you, especially on bad days.

They do here @perchie.girl , county run, along with other services they offer transportation for people on medicaid for health related/medical appointments. Also limited availability for low income individuals without vehicles. My BIL's girlfriend used it when he was in jail to get rides for doctors appointments for the kid's.
Seems like California would have such a program, IDK? maybe we do cause we're rural and no public transportation, buses, or cabs?
Heck, until late last summer upstate NY was the only place in the continental US besides Alaska without statewide Uber and Lyft. And still none of that around here that I know of unless your near a city.

There is a government funded program here that picks people up and transports to and from Dr. Appts. They pick me up for my Dr. Appts every six months. Because dh is working and I don't drive.

Hams are very important in times of emergencies. Often they are the only way to communicate. Cell phones get over loaded and there are not many land lines anymore

I worry about EMP's, either man caused or solar flare. Ham might be the only way for the country/world to communicate, if it survives. My neighbor across the road has one, I could always go over there to see how everyone is surviving.

As the for transportation we used a service here & it was worth it, especially on hubby's bad days.

Total snow for the past week is ~12 inches. The sun came out Sunday afternoon. Current temp is -1F, going up to 18F today, 28F tomorrow and 41F Wednesday...with rain...more rain Thursday. Some kind of weather roller coaster we're on.

We have a melt off right now so tons of ice, spread wood ashes driveway and parking area. Spent yesterday shoveling off our lower roofs cause it was getting heavy. New metal roofs on top side, all snow slides down on two low pitch back rooms and front porch still shingles. Have a roof rake but it's aluminum, wish I bought a plastic one. It has plastic wheels but would not help with the metal roofs, sure it would scrape the paint off the house roof and galvanizing on garage roof on the ridges.
So I usually have to climb on garage low pitch roof addition and shovel it off, super slippery galvanized roof. So I spent a couple hrs yesterday making a plastic end/rake to connect. Used a 55gal plastic barrel for the part, circular saw and sawzall to cut, drilled holes to attach, had to dig for different bolts cause it was thicker. Had to cut, bend tabs to attach the pole. The barrel plastic softens with a torch nicely then hardens great when cooled. Worked great and saved myself some $$.
