The Old Folks Home

WOW! I had completely forgotten about those! My dad used to have a big old wooden one sitting on a stand when I was a kid. I was the only one that fooled with it but I used to love sitting in front of it so much seeing how far away I could reach he rigged up a big antenna for for me.
& now you know the rest of the story don't know if you remember that

Hmmm, might be something to put on my "to look for" list when I go on my antique/rummaging excursions in the summer (I'm usually hunting for old books and other forgotten treasures)
Yesterday went to a few flea markets but nothing, I doubt on line, tried once nothing

My husband is rebuilding a R390A:

It's an 80 pound beast of a receiver but he was trained to repair and maintain them during his days with the agency. This unit is 55 years old and cost the US government 2800 dollars new. The price of a new car back then.

They do here @perchie.girl , county run, along with other services they offer transportation for people on medicaid for health related/medical appointments. Also limited availability for low income individuals without vehicles. My BIL's girlfriend used it when he was in jail to get rides for doctors appointments for the kid's.
Seems like California would have such a program, IDK? maybe we do cause we're rural and no public transportation, buses, or cabs?
Heck, until late last summer upstate NY was the only place in the continental US besides Alaska without statewide Uber and Lyft. And still none of that around here that I know of unless your near a city.
they have it here.... I have to check in to it.... Even Cabs have low cost fares if you dont mind ridign with strangers. For local stuff

I worry about EMP's, either man caused or solar flare. Ham might be the only way for the country/world to communicate, if it survives. My neighbor across the road has one, I could always go over there to see how everyone is surviving.
Be easy to setup a Faraday Cage to protect it too.... Keep it and the generator inside.
