Of course wages were much lower too

That is for sure, a randomly found example:
"According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average household earned $1,518 in 1918, which is the equivalent of $21,644 in 2008 dollars".

That would be $29.19/week. Average. As today, some people made a LOT more, some a lot less.

Yup, just look at those teacher salaries I posted, breaks down to $12-$14 a week 100yrs ago, of course they sure didn't work all yr back then either, really long vacations. Back then they probably wanted to work though, and the kids actually were needed on the farm, crop work. Mention to a teacher, I have a few times, that kids should go to school all yr round, ..... gahhrrgrowlgrr:rant they do not like that idea, guess they enjoy their months off paid per yr.

I remember reading about Hershey chocolate bars being 5 cents for the longest time. I know when I started trick or treating (maybe 8 or so) got a big haul of full size 5 cent
candy bars. I thought people must have been rich.

Of course I used to eat myself into a candy coma, my older sister too. My brother (the baby in family) was self disiplined and would decide how many he could have a day.
Of course we raided his haul. He was around 5 and I don't think he caught on until he got older. Sister and I figured a little kid didn't need that much candy. Of course my mom and father raided his too. What a family right?
Lol! We when I was little would go to a aunts that lived in town for Halloween, we went out as a group, whole bunch of us, no adults, older kids yes but no parents. We did a complete tour and then some, went back through for more, especially the places that gave good, hoping the didn't recognize us as already being there Lol.
I bet you remember them too, houses that gave out apples!! had one old lady give us each a wheat penny
Homemade stuff, some good, cookies, brownies, rice crispy treats not in packages, some popcorn balls wrapped in wax paper, softball size wads of popcorn soaked in either molasses or corn syrup, corn syrup one's with colored sprinkles on them (I actually did like the popcorn balls) and full size candy bars! Did they even have the 'fun size' bite size candy bars back then IDK? One place guy was in a second story apartment, lowered a bucket on a rope for us gave full size candy bars, we went back three times, lol.

The bottom drawer on the stove is emptied, and the stove is all cleaned up. It just needed wiping down inside. Got the stuff in the kitchen fridge transferred to the one in the garage. I'm wiping it down now. I have to move a crock pot, and a glass pedestal cake plate from the top of the kitchen fridge, wipe up there, and I'm done. They will deliver the new stuff sometime in the morning.
