The Old Folks Home

Good evening all and a belated happy mother's day to all the ladies out there.

I finally started to feel like I was going to live about 2pm this afternoon. Up til then it felt kinda iffy. Last night was just miserable. Considered moving blanket and pillow into the bathroom for awhile. Finally got to sleep about 3. I was supposed to go to a HAM radio club meeting this afternoon and had to pass. Told DH it would be much fun if I had to crack the bathroom door and tell everyone to speak louder.

My most memorable Mother's Day story happened when I was 33 years old and had just been told the week before that I would have a very hard time every conceiving children. I was pretty depressed. That Sunday/Mother's Day, my mother asked me to driver her out to KMart. When I entered, an elderly gentleman greeted me with Happy Mother's Day and handed me a carnation. I told him with tears in my eyes that thank you but I wasn't a mother. He insisted I take the carnation anyway and leaning forward, gently said. "but you could be".

I never have forgotten his kindness and realized that moment that mother is a verb as well as a noun.

How right you are @microchick never given birth is not my claim to fame having raised my daughter from 2 1/2 to 18 was my world she has given me two wonderful grandchildren ... mentoring 5 from 12 to 18 was my world they gave me the most horrible t-shirt said Lead Bitch they were my slaves, my puppies .. those are my kids

Living in Juneau all those years my drivers license was PennyJo NA had a friend Glenn with no middle name he was Glenn NA state could not handle no middle names either
I get crap anytime I've been pulled over because my licence just has my first initial and middle initial and full last name. A few times it was like they didn't even understand and it must be a fake ID.
Yo, that's what they gave me at the DMV, apparently with a fourteen letter last name there is no room for the first, IDK?

Had a poor man's Philly mushroom & onion cheese steak sub for dinner tonight. Wanted lobster and some steamed clams... close right? ;) Almost the same thing... So what is it you may wonder... well it's 85% lean ground beef, seasoned and stir fried with onions and mushrooms, then placed on a layer of deli sliced white American cheese in a nice sub roll. It was actually pretty good, though not quite to the level of thin sliced rib eye.

Nice thing about the left over meat is it can be wrapped in a flour tortilla with some cheese and nuked for about 45 seconds for a meat burrito. Can add in some salsa and hot sauce if you want or any other flavor you prefer. Makes a fast, filling lunch. I've even taken them on the road with me on long trips as you can nuke them up at any gas station convenience store when you stop then munch on them as you drive.

Happy mother's day to all you motherly folks out there, regardless of gender or child status. ;) I've met some real mothers out there who never had kids. My kids mother was a mom by biology only. :(

When we were going to have the boy, everyone in dw's family was asking what his name was going to be. DW said a combination of both our grandfathers. They said oh no, I hope ours is the middle, what's his grandfathers name? OHH, that's terrible! She said it was either Llewelyn Marvin, or Marvin Llewelyn, lol. Then I told them no one called my grandfather Marvin anyway, everyone called him hebedo so we'll just call him that, lol.
No we did not name him any of that. Didn't have a name from him, DW went into labor, in the hospital we turned on the TV and John Wayne's 'The Searchers' came on, DW said his name will be Ethan, sounds good to me lol.
