22 times sticking somebody without success is just horrible. You were within your rights to tell her to stop and mean it. When I took my IV class I was told 3 strikes then you are out and have another nurse try.

Believe me, blowing a vein while flushing is the pits. Saline injected too rapidly? Yep. Luckily, I've flushed my fair share and never blew a vein. Guess I was taught by the right teacher, LOL.

@getaclue, all I can say is:hugs.

Yeah, wish there was a kinder gentler way. I offered him my Xiphos sword to fall on but he just clucked and bit me....

I can't imagine anyone sticking someone double digits, let alone 22 x!

Damn! I tend to be pretty "way too patient" with stuff but if someone screwed up twice putting in an IV I'd tell them to find someone who knew what they were doing or I'd be finding another place for the "service". Lucky for me I have big bulgy veins.
 
When I went into the hospital with my rheumatic fever I had a phebotomist from the lab approach me to do a draw. I have great veins but she insisted on going for a 'deep' vein and proceeded to dig around in my arm without removing the needle for what seemed like 15 minutes. The pain was exquisite. I finally looked her dead in the eye and told her that she was going to take the 'bleeping' needle out of my arm that instant and draw the blood from my other arm using a visible vein.

She did and got the draw on the first try. Sorry. Nobody needs to put up with that crap.

It's part of the reason the contrast took so long. The newer contrast, with the newer machines cuts the wait time down drastically.

Remember I said they had to stab me a couple times to get the IV thingy in? Well, when I went back, the CT tech didn't like the way it had been put in. She let me know I have plenty of veins for them to tap. I told her I didn't have any she could tap. I know it was working, because she flushed it, and I tasted the saline. UGH! Well yeah, it was working, but she would rather put a new one in. I told her she could use that one, or not, but she was not sticking me again. She let me know they couldn't do the procedure without the IV thingy. I told her I knew that, but it was working, and that's all she needed. I was not about let her stick me again.

Hubby had a port put in he says there's a slight difference without being a pin cushion
